Hi all, I have put a provisional booking down for Oulton Park for my TF160, local(ish) track to me. Its just that ive never been on a track day before, and I just wanted to know if this would be a suitable day for a first timer :)?

Hello Simon and welcome to MGoT. All MGoT days are generally suitable for all levels, including absolute beginners. As a first timer we recommend strongly that you book an instructor session which we will try to allocate for your first session of the day. At Oulton Park we will have just one session ( MX5 and MSV will have the others ) so it will be a mix of drivers and cars. The on-track etiquette at MGoT days is very good so this should not concern you too much, you'll just need to keep an eye on your mirror. :) As an alternative you could consider Donington Park (The New Home of F1) where we will have two sessions, one for less experienced drivers or slower cars and another for more experienced drivers or faster cars. Again we would strongly recommend an instructor session early in the day. We have recently introduced a feature where we allocate paddock space specifically for novices and we partner up each of you with an experienced driver who will be on hand to assist you during the day and to generally make sure that all is well. We also give you an 'N" sticker for the back of your car so when you're out on circuit other drivers are aware of your status. I hope that this is helpful, please let me know if you have any more questions. See you on track soon. :)

Thanks Steve very helpful. So effectively i'll have a Green "P" sticker on. :D Does the insturctor session cost any extra? And who does the instructing? Yeah, Donnington is also a possibility only 65 miles away.

Hi Simon When you go to the event page to make your booking you will see that you can order some optional extras, instruction is one of them. Usually priced between £10 and £20, depending upon the circuit. All the instructors that we use are ARDS qualified and often have specific circuit experience. The N sticker is similar to the X sticker used in racing to indicate a novice, not sure where the P plate idea came from, but it is similar too. We take safety very seriously and do what ever we can to ensure everyone has a safe, fun day and can drive home afterwards.
