Kept on meaning to come over to your garage for a chat and a look at your Trophy but somehow never got round to it. Then couldn't find you after 4:00. Did you leave early. Pleased you enjoyed the day and look forward to seeing you again.

oops you got me ;o) Yeah i had to leave early im afraid, I was flying out in the early hours for a holiday and also i didn't want to tempt fate, As i got more confident and after having my 'tuition' slot i was like hamilton round the track lol :D but also i was pushing my car harder each time, The result being some Very hot (in the red) oil temps on each track attack. I needed to get home too so i let my car cool down for a while then decided to hit the road while my car still worked LOL An oil cooler may well be on the next mod list

I have suffered from the same high oil temperatures in the past. The solution was fitting the oil cooler from the TF160 which is an oil/water cooler which also assists with warming up which is ideal for track days. Dave also runs with one of these coolers and neither of us have oil temperature problems anymore. Neil

Yes, my oil was edging into the red at Donny too, probably more so than any other track this year. Its surprising they didn't fit an oil cooler as standard to the Trophy. I have plans to fit one but I'm waiting for a particular well known person's to become surplus to requirements ;). In the mean time I got hold of some spare side air inlet vents and intend to be sporting these ebay scoops at Goodwood - which is also a fast track.

oil cooler upgrade I've emailed Mike Satur about the oil cooler upgrade and he's recommended one for me. he says the cooler and parts will be £300 and a further £250 labour/fitting. does this sound a fair price? he also said about upgrading to fully sythetic oil and about some extra cooling ducts to direct the air through my radiator and a manual fan to help things keep cool! This sounds like good advice and the way to go but would it be worth the extra cost in your opinions?? Many thanks Chris

Far be it from me to disagree with MS. Oil - Many will say that the VVC doesn't like fully synth oil but I've never seen any proof either way. Probably forum lore. Vents - You sure he's not talking about scoops to direct air into the engine bay. The radiator seems to cope with all the heat you can chuck at it so long as the system is in good nick. Manual Fan (presumaly engine bay) - An override might be an idea so that you can switch it on when you come back into the pits but dont totally bypass the temperature sensor. You might need that on the road sometime. Oil cooler - Yes a definate bonus.

He's probably talking about vents similar to the ones on the front of my F, i.e. 2 slits below the number plate. http://xtremesportsphotography.net/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=386435

Oil cooler is a must and you could always call MGF Centre if you want to compare prices. As for all the other stuff I'm not sure. I have only recently remembered that I have the TF radiator fitted which has a larger capacity than the original F rad. A track day in France this year in incredible heat failed to bother engine's oil temperature and it was us humans that were struggling the most. I used fully synthetic oil in the past but I wasn't happy with the noise and what problems it may have been causing to the hydraulic followers/lifters? so went back to standard. You'll find that with a cooler fitted the oil will last longer anyway. Neil
