Dave
The eagle eyed amongst you might have spotted a thread on XPF about a track day on 2nd July at Castle Combe. The organiser is Dave Breen, who has been on one or two of our days. He has pm'd me on XPF and I have replied by pm as follows below. I think we're all likley to agree that we should keep away from posting directly on XPF ourselves. Those of you who don't know the history (the Jerry and Max story:D ) please just trust me and keep away - there lie dragons! From Dave Breen on Dec 8 hi dave ,sorry the dates are close ,i had booked it just the day before i got the mgot 2007 calendar i hope its not an issue how might you be able to do it cheaper?? dave" My reply on Dec 10th Hi Dave, Thanks for your pm. I didn’t think that XPF were still thinking about organising their own track days? >> i hope its not an issue The issue is just the obvious one. The number of MG owners that want to do track days is very small and two events within a week of each other, at the same circuit, will split the audience. That said, the majority of your interest so far is from ZS owners who do not seem to come to, or even be aware of, MGoT days – so I guess our numbers will be unlikely to suffer. Have you any idea why these guys don’t come to MGoT days – we’d love to see more ZSs on track. If we’d known you were interested in doing something as an XPF group we could have set aside a complete session on our Castle Combe day for you. >> how might you be able to do it cheaper?? I’m not sure what you mean here. Our days couldn’t really be any cheaper. As a club our pricing is pretty much break-even. We have a few overheads that result from running a complete calendar of events throughout the year. We have to cover these and spread the cost over the programme. A major factor is the booking and accounting systems. Our track days attract the dreaded VAT because we are an official branch of the MG Car Club (MGCC). We’re happy to accept that overhead though, because the MGCC’s legal status protects us, as organisers, from anyone who might sue us. Without the MGCC club’s legal status we’d be personally liable and could lose everything we own! This is something you might want to mull over before you sign that contract with Castle Combe! Other overheads are things like Public Liability Insurance and membership of the ATDO (Association of Track Day Organisers) which are often required by circuits. I believe that Castle Combe’s contract will require proof of £10 mill PLI cover and probably risk assessment documentation etc. It’s certainly not getting any easier to run track days. Some of the circuits are insisting on all sorts of things nowadays. Anyway, enough of my rambling - I hope we’ll see you and some of the other ZSs at our other days during 2007. Do you think you could advertise the rest of our calendar on XPF for us? Kind regards, Dave

I think our date is perfect - leaving it a bit later in the year risks poor visibility... ________ Lamborghini v10
