I'm booked too :D Really looking forward to Cadwell as I've never driven it.
I just heard from Bob Welch, who is the organising the day. He says that there are 20 cars already booked.
|
10/04/2004 22:34:17
Alas I'll be "shot down" somewhere in the middle of Dartmoor at the time. :(
I know where I'd rather be...
|
13/04/2004 17:13:35
Yup, I'm booked.Hopefully I'll make it to this one...
I also booked Silverstone, but due to circumstances was not able to make it on the day :( That makes 3 events (not all through MGoT) that I've booked and paid for that I've failed to attend.
Anyone got suggestions for a local hotel/b&b to stay in overnight?

Sorry you didn't make Silverstone Ralph. We did wonder what had happened to you. Try emailing Bob Welch for suggestions on the Cadwell accommodation. His email is RJWelchmidget@aol.com

I booked.
I hope this is a repeat of Lincs centre's last run at this circuit - which was brilliant. Although cars were not allowed on the 'mountain' part of the circuit (too narrow for cars) it's still an excellent circuit for the MGF.
I think I stayed at the 'Kings Head' (?) last time - I'll try to find out more.
|
20/04/2004 13:10:46
Actually, probably wasn't the Kings Head - it was somewhere near Donington on Bain (not related to Donnington circuit!) - it was about 25quid for a decent room including breakfast.

20/04/2004 17:51:25
Steve, would it have been The Black Horse Inn? It looks like the kind of place I was after.
I am going to make it to this no matter what happens in between now and then... Not 100% certain yet which car I'll be using, probably the ZS180.
In case anyone was wondering what the 3 events were, in chronological order:
1st Lotus day at North Weald
Brands Hatch (organised by SELOC)
Silverstone

21/04/2004 15:16:25
Ralph - it's either that one, or The Old School across the road !
I've got no record of my stay there - but the Black Horse sounds the best bet.
that's bad luck to miss those 3 !
I made the first two, but not Silverstone.

21/04/2004 17:40:11
Sorry, I should have made it clear, the 1st Lotus day was about 2 years ago and was one of the 4 people sessions (I was at North Weald in the snow). A couple of days before the session I discovered that the shock bushes on the F were completely shot. I spent the following day ringing around all the MGR dealers in Kent trying to find the bushes (part number NAM018), but none of the dealers stock them. I then arranged to get the shock absorbers replaced at a tyre place. They assured me that they would have them in the following day. I rang them the following morning, just to make sure that they had arrived, only to be told that they would not have them for another 3 days! As a last resort (it should have been my first) I rang Mike Satur to order the poly bush set. I was surprised, and pleased, when they arrived the following morning - the day of the North Weald session. Unfortunately it took until 1pm to get them fitted, so it wasn't worth going.
The Brands Hatch day was the one last December. I won't go into the reasons why I didn't attend this...
Okay, I'll book the Black Horse, then. See you guys in June (if not berfore).

Got them as one long roll of vinyl from a company called double Image design based in Glasgow. A quick websearch will show you their site.
They specialise in vehicle graphics and tend to work more with lettering or images but phone them and they'll send you plain vinyl cut to size, and they seemed about cheapest when I was looking.

Count me in.
I'll be giving Reggie the race Midget his 'shake down' run ready for the MGCC Silverstone International meeting in July.

Excellent Barry :D
P.S. How are you fixed for the next committee meeting on the afternoon of June 5th?
|
28/05/2004 23:46:52
Looking forward to meeting everyone there! Should be fun, not been on track since Donnington last year when I grenaded my clutch at lunchtime! When I stripped it down there was no sign of a release bearing at all! Must have had one at some point that day ;)

Steve, Ralph,
I've just booked into The Black Horse (Donington on Bain), so hopefully see you there on Thursday evening.
Barry, - have you booked any accommodation yet? There are still rooms at The Black Horse - tel 01507 343640.

Hopefully everyone who is booked has received the following email from Bob:
Here are the latest details for Friday.
We will be starting to register and brief drivers from 8 30 in the morning.
Hope you will all bring a crash helmet and a good car.
There will be 3 groups alternating throughout the day with an hour for lunch.
The groups are (1) race/advanced. (2) intermediate. (3) Beginners.
Those who have paid for lunch will have their £10 refunded as the cafe will be open for food all day.
It will be a little hectic first thing in the morning so please be patient as everyone will get plenty of time on circuit.
Whilst I may already have the information would you all let me know what car you intend to drive and which group you see yourself in?
Finally an appeal from ourselves. We are a non profit making club (MGCC Lincs) and always try to keep prices to an absolute minimum. Entries this year are not as expected and we have had to take out further insurance. To this end we will be making a loss and would ask all of you who believe this to be exceptional value for money to contribute an extra £5 to our club funds which will significantly reduce our liability
Yours sincerely
Bob Welch.

Bugger, bugger, bugger!
I'm having a really bad day. Looks like I'm going to have to be a spectator at this event now.
I've not been able to get hold of a helmet, and I'm told there are no spares at the track.
I've forgotten my driving license, despite Bob and Dave's reminders. I'm currently at work 75 miles from home and a third of the way to the track, so no chance of going back for it.
The car started sounding like a diesel on the way into work this morning.
I forgot my password to this site, so have had to reset the password.
What else can go wrong today?
Looks like I'm doomed never to get on track!
Ralph

Okay, Tim has kindly offered to lend me a helmet, so that's one thing off the list.

Thanks to everyone that organised this excellent event. It was also great to meet and put faces to some of names on here.
I made it out onto the track for 2 sessions and Dave took me out as a passenger on another session. Thanks, Dave, for showing me how it should be done!
I toook about 150 photos during the day. I'll be posting some of them over the next couple of weeks.

Really pleased you could make it Ralph, after all your bad luck on previous occasions. Looking forward to the photos :-)
I'd like to record my thanks on here to Bob Welch of the Lincs Centre of the MG Car Club. He organised a terrific day. It was my first trip to Cadwell Park and I loved it. :D Fantastic track and setting. I hope everyone sends in a booster donation to the Lincs Centre funds, as I know that the day lost a £100 or so. :( We need to help Bob persuade the Centre to do this again next year. I'm sure you'll all agree it was worth more than the £75 we were charged and I for one would be happy to pay more next year to make sure the Centre feel it is worth repeating the day.
