Thought I'd start the Bedford thread off with a request for 'who's going'? The problem I have is that I'm meeting so many new people at these events I forget their names (head like a sieve - consequence of advanced age). How about letting us know that you have booked and what car your taking. I'll start:- Norman Law TF160 Le Mans Green - Miltek exhaust (no other mods, warranty and all that) Looking forward to it already.:D

Hello all, I'm looking forward to this as I never driven my car on a large circuit like this, my experience is limited to smaller sprint venues, (I often visit Curbuorgh sprint track testing with work). I've got a mk3 Rover 216, which has had a few mods to it (bigger brakes, lowered, exhaust, ECU, etc), funds permitting I'd like to have some new shocks in place too. Look forward to seeing you all there :) Nathan

Giving this one some seriours consideration. Need to try out my new X-Power suspension :D Dave, you say its one of the safest tracks, do you recon I could get away without any additional insurance or would that be unwise?:(
Giving this one some seriours consideration. Need to try out my new X-Power suspension :D Dave, you say its one of the safest tracks, do you recon I could get away without any additional insurance or would that be unwise?:(
Steve, the insurance issue is a tricky one. Bedford is definitely one of the safest tracks because of the absence of stuff to hit should you spin off - there are few barriers/gravel traps etc. and plenty of grass run off. However, on any circuit it is always going to be possible that someone else spins in front of you and you cannot avoid hitting them. Obviously this risk is minimised when traffic is low and the cars/people on track are of similar capabilities. At Bedford the circuit is huge - 3.6 miles and so traffic shouldn't be a real problem. However, it will be open pit lane and so you would be on track with the most experienced of drivers and fastest of cars. Having said that, there are good lengths of straight on this circuit and so plenty of time/space for faster cars to overtake. Additionally, there isn't a better behaved bunch of drivers than SELOC (the Lotus Elise guys we are sharing the day with) and even though the Loti will be faster than us Fers, they are a courteous bunch and do employ the 'overtaking by consent' rule. Indeed we borrowed it from them! Of course, a big factor is how much you expose yourself to the risk. If you drive within your limits; if you keep plenty of distance from other cars; if you back off and let faster cars go by - then you'd have to be pretty unlucky to have an accident. So, what am I saying here? It would be unwise for me to recommend that you take the risk, but the risk is small. Have I taken the risk? Yes, but I don't do it regularly. I'm now lucky enough to be insured with a company that offers track day cover at just £25 per day (excess raised to £1000 for the day). You must take the decision yourself.

Dave, I've recieved a PM on the SELOC forum asking me to update my info on the following page http://forums.seloc.org/showevent.php?eid=222 Bit concerned that the date on the top is 10th April & that not everyone from your list above that is appears on it ????? I followed your booking instructions, but has there been a cock up somewhere?

Another one booked (Advice sought) Bit of an introduction, I've just got myself an bog standard MGF VVC (2nd April), and am in the process of joining the MGCC. I've just booked for the Bedford Day. I'm a track day virgin on four wheels, but have done a few on two. Anyone with track day experience got any words of wisdom for a novice? As far as prep'ing the car I'd guess it's pretty much the same as you do with a bike, but any advice would be welcomed. Oh, I've booked the training session, as I thought it would probably be a good idea! Ian Lloyd MGF VVC Kawasaki ZX9

Oh, I've booked the training session, as I thought it would probably be a good idea! Ian Lloyd MGF VVC Kawasaki ZX9
Welcome Ian! You'll find the MGF great fun on track :D As long as you've checked the car over pretty thoroughly for the road, there's not much more to worry about on track. A few extra psi in the tyres, an empty boot, a suitable helmet and you're pretty much ready :) There are a few hints and tips in the frequently asked questions area, which is still sitting on the main pages (I must get around to moving some of this over on to The Pit Lane). Take a look at http://www.mgs-on-track.com/index.php?pg=53. On the day, the first hour will be sighting laps, so that you can learn the circuit. Well done for sorting instruction, as that will help enormously. There is an offer from the organisers to provide instruction free of charge to track day beginners. If you've paid for instruction, I should email Paul Golding at SELOC and explain that you did this without knowing of the offer. I'm sure he'll sort you out. His email is paul@elise160.net. Other than that take it slowly at first, build your confidence in the car and enjoy yourself! By the way, when you join the MGCC you'll also automatically become a member of the MGF Register. You can find out more about this group at http://www.mgfregister.org/. The big event to get in your diary is the Silverstone International Weekend on 24/25 July. More details at http://www.mgcars.org.uk/carclub/silverstone.html. Looking forward to meeting you at Bedford :)
Welcome Ian! You'll find the MGF great fun on track :D Looking forward to meeting you at Bedford :)
Thanks, I'm really looking forward to it! I know the grin factor of riding a bike and a track, and can imagine it's exactly the same on four wheels! One question I have got is regarding fuel, what's the best amount to have in the tank? Full, half.......? I may post some more questions as and when I think of them.

However, the track usually closes for an hour at lunchtime and you can always pop out to a local garage.

To get the full picture of how track days work it would be useful to attend the briefing. No pass is necessary to get into the grounds. There'll be plenty of people willing to give you passenger laps, but don't forget that you'll need a helmet. See you there :D

What to bring..... The list of who's attending has shown me in undecided mode... It looks like there's some nice twiddly bits on the circuit so I'll be bringing the race Metro, it should now be quiet enough (from the exhaust at least, the gearbox noise could be an issue). Al
Any idea what refreshments will be available??? Or do I just put a raw potato in the boot in the morning, and have it nicely done at lunch? :D
I've just checked and the potato idea sounds a good-un! Seriously though, there are no commercial facilities being opened. Apparently, the restaurant requires a guarantee of £1000 of sales for it to open. I'm told it is somewhat expensive anyway, so maybe no great loss. I understand that one of the Lotus guy's wives turns up with home made sandwiches for sale. However, I don't know what volume she caters for, so best throw that potato in just in case! More general info, by email, to everyone later today.

3 days and counting Looking at the weather forecast, which could be a bit iffy, I'll be bringing along and old tatty gazebo that we can use as 'MG on tracker' home. I'll also bring along a spare lid that passengers can use. I'm also going to attempt to cook some cheese and onion pasties using engine heat alone, but they're mine!!! :o)
