Can anyone help clarify the situation regarding open top cars and roll bars at the Brands trackday? I've just looked on the motorvision terms and conditions and it lists the following stipulation about open top cars:
• Open top cars will only be permitted when fitted with a full MSA/FIA approved roll safety device, or other road homologated roll over safety device. Road homologated vehicles which do not have the above by virtue of their manufactured date, but which are still in standard road homologated specification are also permitted. Does this apply to my Midget? (What about fellow F drivers too?) I have an older design roll bar but it only has two bolt mountings on the backstays and so doesn't comply with the latest blue book regs. Tim

Hi Tim Can't answer with specifics but have been to Brands a few times (with MGoT) and always have my hood down on my TF. I can't wear a helmet with the hood up, it just bangs on the hood frame. I do have the MGR roll hoops but they are not homologated. I've also seen lots of other Fs and Bs without hoops at all. I think Brands turn a blind eye for track days.

As you know, this is not a 'regular' MGoT day as Brands are in control of the event organisation - hence why bookings are with them rather than us. We've just asked for clarification on the terms and conditions that they are sending out: Drivers in open top cars must wear a full face helmet and this is enforced. With regards to roll cages - cars must be able to support themselves if they roll over - i.e. an MGF can support itself on it's windscreen in the event of a roll. It is also included in our T's and C's that: "Road homologated vehicles which do not have the above by virtue of their manufactured date, but which are still in standard road homologated specification are also permitted " - i.e. a standard MGB does not need a roll bar. I hope this clarifies these issues. Please feel free to give me a call if you need to discuss this further. Kind regards, Alex Baker Track Hire Sales MotorSport Vision Limited Brands Hatch Fawkham Longfield Kent DA3 8NG t: 01474 875216 f: 01474 874822 e: alex.baker@motorsportvision.co.uk www.motorsportvision.co.uk So, MGF, MGBs Midgets, MGAs etc. all OK. Indeed I believe that all will be normal, except for two things: 1. they will enforce closed face helmets if you have the top down. This is an MSA rule, but not one usually enforced at track days. Anyone driving a soft-top car with its hood up, should be OK with an open-faced helmet, according to my understanding of the regulation. 2. there is also something in the terms and conditions about taping up headlight and tailight glass. This isn't normal on track days, but shouldn't be too onerous to comply with if required. If anyone has any questions they can ask me or directly of Alex at Brands.

I would also suggest the you don't turn up in shorts and a tee shirt - have full length trousers and a top with full length sleves. Dave
