This is likely to be a shared day, with the possibility of Lotus, MX5 and Triumph clubs participating. There are no sessions. Castle Combe runs with ten cars on track at once and runs a queueing system. With 50 cars maximum on the day there should be plenty of track time. Does any one know the current noise limits in place at castle combe. I know their driveby noise limit can be a challenge for cars on race type tires. Dave

IIRC the static limit was 102dB at the charity day in January, although my recollection of previous limits has been under 100dB. I was slightly apprehensive about whether Fiona's K&N'd & TT MkII'd F would scrape through, but it passed with a comfortable margin, without needing skulduggery on which pipe the probe was aimed at ;) I checked on a very old map, and the village Yatton Keynell is still where it's always been, so quite why their hearing has become more easily offended recently beats me... ________ Rhode island medical marijuana dispensaries

Dave
Castle Combe do a static noise test on track days, which is 98dB at 3/4 revs. I've never seen anyone pulled off on a drive-by as the number of cars on track at any one time is very small for a track day (either 5 or 10 depending on the event booking - we'll be running with a 10 car day in Sept).

I did an MG dealer organised day a few years ago in my V8 which was 96db in the static test, also present was an MG RV8 which showed 94db static. However the pair of us near eachother on the track was very near the driveby limit. investigations showed it was mainly the dunlop D01J's on the RV8 causing the noise. Apart from that it was the most enjoyable and relaxed track day I've ever done - twelve cars in total and six at a time on track plus a beautiful july day..... Dave

The static noise test at Castle Combe is 100db(A) at 4500rpm. I know this for sure as I have failed the sound test on more than one occasion. If you have a V8 MGB Dave then you will need a twin box system to be safe, single box systems are always close to the sound limit. For some reason 4 cylinder MGB's are very loud on static tests no matter what exhaust system you put on them and with a race exhaust 100db is very difficult to get below. Joe

Mark, I'm quite confident of passing the noise test having been 94db at Brands on sunday. We'll have to trade passenger rides since my nearly 200 laps of combe is nothing compared to you total - plus many of mine were without the chicanes! Dave

Dave Ive never failed a noise test at Combe but always been close at between 97db and 99db depending on weather conditions. Now I always carry an additional bolt on silencer just in case. Combe without the chicanes must have been mental! Every winter I do a project on the car and then use the year to test against lap times round Combe to see how well the modifications work. Now in the sub 1m20secs on a dry day and clear track and in my 6th year of track daying. Ill be there this Saturday as Ive got 4 sessions booked at Rally Day which is one of the busiest days. Hope the weather cools down a bit though. Mark

Any additional requirements Hi all, So that we can finalise arrangements, please would anyone that hasn't already confirmed their requirements for any of the following do so, ideally by the weekend. 1. Instruction - likely to be ?20, with an ARDS qualified instructor 2. Helmet hire - a guesstimate of the size would be useful too 3. 2nd drivers - places are limited 4. Passengers If you haven't received the email Mike Hall sent regarding instruction that probably means we don't have an email address for you; if you wouldn't mind providing us with an address, that will ensure you get all the necessary info without delay. ________ Nevada marijuana dispensaries

Well, I managed to get in due to some late withdrawls, looking forward to meeting you all. I'm like some of you, anxious about passing the noise test!:D

Everyone should have received the event guide and indemnity form by now - please shout if you haven't. Key times are: 08:00 - 08:45 Sign-on in the Tavern Clubhouse 08:00 onwards Noise testing in the scrutineering bay 08:45 - 09:10 Driver briefing in the Tavern Clubhouse Please don't forget to bring your driving license (both paper and card parts if the modern type) and your MOT certificate/V5. If you can also print out and fill in the indemnity form in advance that will speed up the sign on. Enough helmets should be available, as long as we don't get a last minute rush!

As a late comer to this event, taking up one of the MX5 places, I haven't got the indemnity form and event guide. Any chance you could e-mail them to me, Dave? Cheers Ralph

Great day and the noise test was nothing to worry about. I found it hard to believe that others with smaller engined cars were having so much trouble when I thought my Janspeed system would be too 'boomy'. I'll need to save up some money, or sell one of my kids for some more of that!:D

If you want your ZS180 to be louder I can supply and fit the Janspeed manifolds :D There are 3 sets left - £700 supplied and fitted to MGoT/MGCC/MGOC members. We'll also do 10% discount on labour charges for any repairs, etc. to the same group of people. BTW Hope the commitee don't mind me doing this bit of advertising. If this is a problem, please remove this post.
