Crikey, that was quick. I'll stick a cheque in the post this weekend. I've tried to encourage a few more 260 owners to come along. Lets hope they do!

Hello all,
Just registered and I'm hoping to make the start of this season at Bedford.
Would have joined in towards the end of last year but unfortunately couldn't make the dates for events like Northweald! Hopefully this year!
Look forward to meeting some of you.....think I already met Neil at a NorthWest F/TFr's meet. MarkL was telling me all about Neils unfortunate/costly spin off the track a while back.
Hope everybody has a safe and enjoyable 2006! :D

I don't think you're on the newsletter mailing list yet - drop me your email address via our webform here. This will keep you informed of all future events as they are announced. They'll always appear on this site as well, but of course that requires you to keep checking back and you might just miss an announcement. Sometimes places can go real quick!
Have a great Xmas and hope to see you at Bedford.

Well here we go, first MGoT post of 2006!! I feel very privileged :)
Its the start of a new year and the start of a new past time for me. Sent off my cheque to LoT on Monday for Bedford and yesterday took the TF for a blast over to Demon Tweeks in Wrexham for a bit of Helmet shopping. Tried on quite a few to find a good comfortable fit, and ended up with one of these:

Almost matches my car as I have an Xpower grey 160 with full red interior, so that's a bonus! And I wasn't overstruck on plain white!
In the end this Stilo and an Arai were very close in terms of fit and comfort but this won on price! Hopefully there won't be much in it on safety either if it ever comes into real use!
As it was a display one and the only one thay had left in large (looks brand new inside and out and comes complete with box and bag), they offered it to me at £180, over £40 notes off the sticker price. :p And if you're interested the closest Arai was £420!
Blokes at Demon Tweeks were very helpful and even though they were a skeleton staff they didn't mind spending over 30 mins with me trying on all the different lids! Big thumbs up!
Looking forward to the 28th now!!!

Nice lid Gary, to keep it protected when not in use you could get an MGoT branded case.

Looks very nice! May have to get my hands on one of those.
Got a confirmation of booking from Paul Golding at LoT today, and that I'm down for the free Instructional session which will hopefully get done quite early on in the day.
As my partner wants to come but doesn't want to drive or be a passenger, is Bedford accomodating for a spectator as she's not much of a petrol head so wouldn't get a lot out of sitting in the pits all day. Its just I've viewed the facilities on 'google earth' and can imagine it being very busy with upto 100 cars in the small pit area, and with it being the middle of winter, standing around most of the day in the cold/wet might not be too appealing either. I'd like her to come and do some camcordering/photo taking while I'm on the track, but from 8 - 5 is a long day.
What would you lot recommend?
You might need to check with Paul about spectators.
I did mention about my partner in my letter to LoT which accompanied my cheque, and in his email earlier, Paul did state that my "partner is more than welcome".
Its more the practicalities of having her stand around all day while I have fun, as she's not blessed with a lot of patience, and obviously as Bedford doesn't host any competitive motorsports, its very sparse on spectator comforts.
Sure she could drink tea and eat biscuits all day but even that could get a touch boring over the course of the day! :p
Which circuits are better suited to having spectators attend, as I may suggest that she waits till a bit later in the year and come along to one of those when the weather is a tad improved!
|
05/01/2006 12:56:20
Bedford is better than most in terms of standing around as you can sit inside and the hot/cold drinks are free.
Downsides are that they can only mill around in the paddock area and with the track being so flat there is not a massive amount to watch. Just a corner, straight and then watching the cars becoming distant dots.
You could sign her in as a passenger, bring/borrow a lid and she can ride around with you, or hop in any other car with a driver willing to take her for a ride. It woudl at least break up the sitting around drinking tea parts of the day :)

Is there any more news on expected numbers to the track now with only 1 week to go? Wondered if any more MGs had signed up and if LoT had indicated what sort of machinery was coming along from their ranks?
Looking forward to it! :D

Looking forward to it! :D
Sorry Gary - no current update at the moment. Both Paul (LoT organiser) and I have been a bit busy of late. Lot's to try and sort out on the calendar and other matters - let alone working for a living! We've an MGoT committee meeting on Sat and then I'm away on biz from Sunday until next Thursday, which I know is too late to update you :( I expect the majority of the LoT guys to be in Elises. See you there.

Please enter the circuit via the main entrance where you will be met at the final gate by Palmersport staff who will noise test your car. If you fail don’t panic ask for myself, Mark or David when you sign on. As a reminder there are two noise limits at Bedford – a static one of 101db and a drive by which is 87db at 20 metres. If at any point during the day PLEASE come and find one of us as we may be able to help – some cars packed up in December when we were able to help them get a full day so it’s worth checking.

You will be directed to sign on after noise testing.

You will then be led round to the paddock area..

The 200 limit has come into place due to the large number of spectators turning up at the circuit on a number of days last year (we had 400+ spectators for one day). Bedford is not suitable for spectators. Those who have notified us of 2nd drivers will be fine and we are happy for you to bring one guest as a passenger in your car. If you do bring a passenger we strongly advise they come to the circuit with you as they are sure of getting in then. We don’t envisage having a problem if people are sensible. We have been lucky to be able to get a large number of dates at Bedford over the last few years and would like this to continue. Looking forward to this Saturday Dave. See you there I hope.
I'm now an official ARDS instructor (just waiting for the licence to come in the post) so if you have anyone on the day who wants some help or advice please point them to me. I'll be more than happy to help.

About Bedford - I'll be there sans car I'm afraid. It's still up at Techspeed having it's winter maintenance. I'd hoped it would be ready in time, but between Techspeed's ever growing popularity and some hard to come by bits and pieces there's been a delay. I'll arrive in my daughter's Ford Ka  with MGoT banner and my crash-hat, hoping for a few passenger laps from the assembled throng of MG owners :o
See you all there.

Real shame that you aren't going to be there in the F. Can't you persuade your daughter to let you out on the track in the Ka, would give me some overtaking practice? :p
Look forward to seeing you all there in the morning bright and early!

Gary, was it you in the MGTF following me that got told off by the instructor for not concentrating on your own driving and laughing at me?

Yup that was me......the things you were doing with your rear end were a touch distracting, in a good way! Its not like you were following the conventional racing lines. :p
Have to say I had a very fun day for my first trackday, and once my fiancee got used to it, she almost had fun being a passenger too. :)
My tyres aren't doing too badly but my front brakes were hammered. They've got a lovely high pitched squeal to them now at low speeds so will have a good look at my discs and pads.
Will look forward to seeing some of that video footage you shot Tony, with your unconventional camera mount. Even the instructor was impressed with your liberal use of cable ties! :D
I saw over on the SELOC forum there is a link up to some photos of the day, mainly Loti but it shows Tony looking shifty next to his car in the pits and Neil out on track. Unfortunately you do need to do a quick registration to view the pics but it only requires a name and email address.

Hope we can find out when and on what program the footage that the 'Discovery channel' were shooting on the day will be shown. Any chance of hunting down some details Dave?
Anyway, fantastic day and it was a pleasure to meet you all!

Sounds like Tony had even more fun than when he took me out for a few laps. Did the circuit completely dry out? - I left at lunchtime.
Glad you enjoyed your first day Gary :)

It was indeed a very good day. I must confess that I did not enjoy the morning's driving with ice on the track. However, after lunch with most of the track dry, confidence was restored and the 4.15 finished arrived all to early.
It was also my first experience of being driven in a ZT260 and I still struggle to understand how Tony managed to avoid all those cones and I didn't realise 260s had four wheel steering. :D
It was good to see you again Gary and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Here's another photo link where you can obtain high res images:

Fellas ,you want to see the video! Full on Nascar sound track and some fabulous moments in the final session where the scenery is travelling sideways and not away from the camera for 4 or 5 seconds at time whilst the car bellows. Then the car straightens and you see two thick curved lines coming away from the car.
And possible the horrified face of driver of an Elise that was behind me at the time :D
I'll post a link when I've converted it.

Nice video Tony, although I was starting to feel car sick by the end of it! :p
Have you seen this other video of last year at Bedford, scroll to the bottom of the page....

....features some nice shots of your rear end as seen from an M3 CSL. :D

I have indeed seen it, that site is me and my friends - all the videos are stuff we put together. If you look around the wiki you will find in-car vids from my race car for cadwell and other circuits. Serious laps, not skidding laps.

Have watched some of those, good footage of the B, but your V8 does provide a nicer soundtrack!
Nice to see me chasing you on that vid, but have you got any more raw footage of when I was driving behind you, as I would love to be able to use some of it myself for a website I'm putting together? Would be happy to send you a pre paid envelope and a blank dvdr if you needed.

I've the whole lot of me getting past you, then you following for a while and then me letting you past again. I can create a file of just that and send it to you no problem.
Any particular format?

Just something avi related with a half decent bit rate so I can reedit any bits I need to add titles to etc would be good. Cheers!
Just reading JJ's reviews, bit harsh on the TF.... :( .... but I ain't going to argue, I'd be driving an S2000 or a VX220 when I can afford the car and afford to insure it! :D

I know we have confirmed dates now for some of the events, but I was wondering when do you normally post confirmed details such as pricing, and when can I start signing up for some of them!?! ;)

We've been holding back on all bookings for this year's events in anticipation of a new website with an online booking system. This will relieve me of a lot of work :-) However, we've been delayed with it. I'm hoping we can get it launched in the next couple of days - it won't be perfect, but as long as it works I'll be pleased. Expect a newsletter soon to announce the site and open all events for bookings.
There's an announcement to this effect on the home page currently.
Regards,
