As we discussed on Saturday, Dave has been in touch with Goodwood and this is the reply we have received: Secondly, I wanted to touch base with you regarding Saturday 20th February and see where you guys are at with it? At the moment, we have only cancelled events until beginning of February, in line with the Government information to say the current lock down is to run until 15th February . From that point, we hope to receive some further information and guidance as to whether the lock down will come to an end, be extended or relaxed into a Tier system. This will hopefully mean we are then in a position to discuss next steps knowing what we are legally allowed to do, and how. If your date is forced to cancel due to Covid, we will then work with you to find an alternative date to replace it. and: Ok lets maybe touch base maybe on 1st February and take stock and hopefully we will have enough correct information to be able to plan from there. Obviously feel free to contact me in the meantime should you have questions or concerns. So we can hold off making a decision until early February and we may be in a better position to make a final decision then or have to defer depending on the national situation. We can also review Silverstone at that stage and decide whether to open booking at that time or leave it until later.

Thanks for the update Nigel. I wonder, is it worth talking now to Goodwood and Silvertsone about provisional alternative dates and getting something 'penciled in' just in case.

The decision on Silverstone has been made for us; from an e-mail I got late yesterday: 'In light of the lockdown we are currently unable to operate any Silverstone organised General test days, retail, track days (including track day clubs/ operators) until at least April, subject to the restrictions changing. The only form of activity we are able to run currently is Exclusive hire of the track for elite teams with low numbers of cars on site. With regret is does mean that we will be unable to run the Car track day on Monday 22nd March as originally planned, I am sorry to have to deliver disappointing news- all clubs and track day Operators are in the same boat currently and we are working hard to try and reschedule clients where we can in our calendar. We may not have the capacity from April to reschedule every event lost in February and March although we will do our upmost to help as many clients as we can. ' I will talk to them next week to try to clarify the situation. If we can get an alternative day it is likely to be either more expensive or around October/November at a similar price.

Thanks Dave for the update. Not completely unexpected. I'll update the website to reflect this

Interesting "news" article on the MGCC motorsport pages about their event a day or two before our planned day at Silverstone. read it here: https://www.mgcc.co.uk/motorsport/silverstone-in-march/

Thanks Dave thanks for the update. They must know more than we do.

We also have heard (completely off the record) that Goodwood are dropping all events for February. Dave is going to call them on Monday too.

Their website allowed me to add a track day for Feb 26th £369 + postage. I did start the process chosing Feb 6th but in the end only 26th came up inc lunch. Passenger lunch was an extra £21

Goodwood: Dave & I heard this morning that they are waiting on February 15th to see if there are any national changes on that date. I suggest we hold fire on doing anything at the moment but if there are indications it could go ahead we could take bookings as expressions of interest with zero fee at this stage so we don't end up spending money making refunds.

Avoiding the cost of taking monies and then further costs refunding sounds like a good plan. An indication could be useful given a 'go ahead' but if we don't know until the 15th can we complete the processing of paperwork and taking the monies in 4 days?

I enjoy Goodwood, how ever my view to avoid confusion and the chance of "catching a cold" put it as a no goer.
Avoiding the cost of taking monies and then further costs refunding sounds like a good plan. An indication could be useful given a 'go ahead' but if we don't know until the 15th can we complete the processing of paperwork and taking the monies in 4 days?
I think Goodwood is ever popular so there is likely to be high demand if it does go ahead and I think we can process the payments in that short time. However, I think it extremely unlikely that it will go ahead as even if the event can be run safely, the restrictions on national movements in the country are likely to stay in place for some while in my view - hope I am wrong though!!

The last Goodwood sold out before lunch so processing entries and money in a restricted time is not a problem and there were 12 or more on the reserve list. Nigel have you put this past the MMM group, can they be ready with short notice? Once committed we can not afford to have a shortfall on numbers as margins are tight. I am willing and able to attend at short notice. Presumably there would not be a contract to sign until after the 15th. All interested parties could be contacted before signing a contract to check we have numbers. However as you state restrictions could still be in force regarding travelling so it would be a no goer.

Well done Nigel and DaveP for managing to move Goodwood. Let's now hope that the restrictions are eased in time.
