Well I've done it now. the track day is paid for, and there is no backing out now. My car is well modified as road cars go, high revving overbored engine, 5 speed box, lowered Frontline suspension, slightly wider wheels (though still spoked) etc. It's time to find out if the nut behind the wheel has any ability or not! I have signed up for ARDS tuition, though reading now, it sounds like one of you lot may have come out with me and given me some pointers. I once did a track day at Donington on my Honda Firestorm, but it was a very last minute thing, where I just happened to be at the right place at the right time. I never even got a briefing. So if nothing else, at least I know where the corners are! although the Melbourne loop was included on that day. A couple of questions - where do I go when I get to the circuit? I will have to bring some stuff with me, I always have a full fuel can, and some oil just in case, it sounds like I need a footpump (though I may rely on borrowing one if I need one), and I have a wind deflector for motorway work, I also have to carry a heavy hammer for my wheel spinners. The thing is I am not keen on having all this stuff in the boot while I am out on track. Will I be able to leave this stuff in the pits? Also my helmet is a Shoei XV motorcycle helmet. It was proffessionaly repainted and the only sticker left on was the kitemark sticker. will I have to borrow another helmet? I'm still not sure if I am looking forward to it or not. The problem is I have at least 3 years of my sparetime life in this car. I rebuilt it from a barn find. I did build it with fun in mind though. It will be interesting to see how it fares against more modern stuff on the straights, in isolation it feels fast, but then it is only 5 1/2 inches off ground, and makes a disproportionate amount of noise.

Well done Shawn :-) I'll be sending out some details about the evening nearer the time, but basically you just drive into the paddock area, park up somewhere and find the sign-on desk. I haven't yet got the details of where this will be yet, but I suspect it might be the paddock cafe. We usually have access to the pit garages at Donington and typically we empty our boots and pile up our 'stuff' in whichever garage we use. It's not secure I know, but this is the way things work at track days. There is both a level of trust and a level of self-help amongst participants, particularly as we are all MG enthusiasts. For this event we will share the evening with two other clubs (it's a three session per hour event and we have one of the three sessions). Whilst I don't yet know which clubs we are sharing with, I'd be confident that they too will have a similar enthusiasts outlook. Your helmet's kitemark sticker - what BS number does it have? The info on helmet specs is here. Strictly speaking you should wear a helmet that conforms to the MSA blue book. We'll have some for hire at a tenner for the evening. Don't worry, our emphasis is very much on having fun in safety - we all use our pride and joys at these events. None of our cars are expendable! :)

Shawn, I'll buddy you for a session if you want. Just make yourself known to Dave and he'll hopefully point you in my direction. My experience of a 1380 Midget suggests they are fast little bleeders! Tony
