Hi folks Have been trying to get and answer since Sunday from the event Manager and chairman regards Helmets at Donny but have not as yet received a response to my question (see below) Can any one else on the committee give me an answer, if i do need to order a helmet i don't want to leave it too late !! Thanks Stu "Hi Nigel, Hope you are well it’s been a while Have had Tim & Fran staying this weekend getting the cambelt and underfloor coolant pipes change on their car in readiness for Donny In conversation we talked about helmets and I said have any rules changed as I still have my Silver open face which is the helmet I have used since the BS/Snell thing come up about 10 years back. Tim and Fran seem to think some circuits are insisting on full face now? Are you aware of any such stipulations at Donny. Fingers crossed for a bright sunny day, it’s going to be great to catch up with some of the old crew and get the F back on circuit again."

Hi Stu Donington is now owned by MSV, so I expect that MSV rules apply. Full face in open cars. HTH See you there Steve

Hi Stu, Apologies, where did you send your request as I haven't had anything by email this week from you. Steve is absolutely right, MSV rules now apply at Donington so you will need full-face helmets - let me know if/how many you need and we can make sure we have some spare ones with us.

Hi Nigel, I used the MGOT email address shown for the event manager - nigels@mgs-on-track.com Helmet purchased arrived today :) Although currently a boat might be more appropriate ! Stu

Hi All There appears to be some confusion if open face is suitable at Donnington, the event guide mailed out says open face are ok at Donny although this thread seems to say otherwise. I have now purchased a full face but I don’t want to see anyone caught out by turning up with a open face if it’s not acceptable. Stu

There should not be any confusion.......if you go to the Forum list then FAQs,you will find a thread “What specification of helmet do I need”. This has an up to date analysis of the helmet requirements for most of the circuits used by MGoT. Donington Park is now part of the MSV Group: the requirement is that a full-face helmet be worn in any open/soft-top car regardless of whether the top is up or down (and including those with webasto/sliding fabric roofs). Open face helmets may however be worn if a fixed hard-top is fitted. Hope this helps. Peter Purcell

Copied from the MSV trackday "FAQ" section........ Equipment Requirements All drivers and passengers must wear a suitable crash helmet (not off road style motorcycle helmets) and have their legs covered at all times whilst on circuit. In the case of open top/convertible vehicles, drivers must wear a full face helmet and have arms and legs covered.

......the information provided in the MGoT FAQs was compiled by me about 18 months ago and results from direct discussion with MSV Safety Officers and Chief Instructors. This stemmed from a previous incident at an MSV circuit when a driver was prevented from entering the circuit wearing an open face helmet and driving a Convertible despite having the top raised. I doubt that the requirements have changed or the FAQs would reflect this; however you should consult the Chairman for confirmation. The requirement that arms and legs be covered applies to all circuits.

I think the confusion has arisen because Donington has been acquired by MSV since the event guides were constructed by Peter. The event guide distributed yesterday by Nigel says: "At Goodwood, Donington Park, Castle Combe and Blyton, open-face helmets may be used in open/convertible cars. MGoT recommends suitable eye-protection is worn (visor or goggles)." Clearly, this does need amendment so that Donington is included in the section on MSV circuits. which says: "At Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Snetterton, Cadwell Park, Bedford and Hethel, full-face helmets must be worn in any open/convertible car, including those fitted with Webasto/fabric sunroofs, regardless of whether the soft-top is up or down.:" I'm sure someone from the committee can get on the case, but Nigel may need to pop out a clarification email as Stu suggests just in case someone gets caught out.

Peter is correct. The Appendix B for Dony is very clear, but the Event guide, as Dave has pointed out is incorrect and needs to be changed. I do wonder how many people read the circuit specific appendices?

......... IMHO document control and management is critical in order to implement updates and ensure that amendments to any document are cross-referenced and corrected across all paperwork ........not rocket science but it can be tedious.

Less trouble than a service in helpfully identifying a gap in the system........and you have got the info you needed in the end ! Hope you have a good day at Donny.

Hi All, Thanks for the comments on the event guide. I have updated accordingly and am sending out an update today on garage allocations, so will also mention the helmet requirements.
