Correspondance to date on the Brands GP issues, latest first: I’d need to talk to the Brands Hatch team in more depth to discuss the specifics of the cars and punishments, we will do this on my return to the office. Kind Regards Stuart Garland New Business Coordinator MotorSport Vision Trackdays Hi Stuart, Thanks for your quick response and hopefully the measures you plan to put in place will prevent any reoccurance. Only one question you did not answer – why were these drivers not black flagged? Hi Dave, Your comments are fair. Both Lee-Anne and I spent a reasonable time in Race Control and in the Pit Lane during the morning looking at some of the issues you’ve raised first hand. I’m not going to defend the steady group, both Lee-Anne and I share the disappointment regarding the cars that ended up in that session, and we’re already looking at ways to ensure this does not happen again - should you wish to extend this group booking to the 2020 season. Regards to noise testing we can’t start at 07.30 due to the noise restrictions at the venue, but your comment regarding allocating timeslots is a fair one and something we can and will explore. Looking at the blocked paddock, we can look to close the paddock gate earlier and require lorries to be in place prior to the commencement of noise testing to aid this also. Paddock access is something we look at constantly during these days, so it is a priority. If you do wish to explore GP options for 2020, I will ensure a specific discussion happens with the MSVT Manager to ensure that we’re better placed to serve the needs of your members – which may mean we need to look more closely at dates and avoid dates with a close proximity to GP race weekend. Unless it can be near a Trackday Trophy event and we share a session between them (as respectful novice racers) and yourselves. We have had a good relationship dating back many years so rather than let people air their views on the forums and generally sling mud around I wanted to let you know the specific issues direct. We took 20 places in the ‘steady’ session so when we lined up for the sighting laps we were rather surprised to see half a dozen full race cars in the session; Minis, Ginetta and VW who were no doubt getting some extra practice in for the coming race weekend. I appreciate that you don’t know the car details when people book but maybe something like no race licence holders in the session would have kept them out. However, provided they stuck to the trackday rules it would not have been a problem as we have a pretty broad range of cars in our club . The issue was that they totally ignored all the rules, overtaking on corners, on the right hand side and without any consent from any of the cars being overtaken. I had 2 Minis, nose to tail, come past me at Stirlings on the right hand side as I was close to the apex and heading back out to the exit. If I hadn’t spotted them we would all have been in the barriers. Alan Wilshire’s briefing was quite clear on the overtaking rules and they were just being ignored. After the first session I spoke to other drivers in our club and they had all had the same experiences. I spoke to Alan and I believe he had a word with the race car drivers in the steady group, however the second session was much the same. I understand that you can’t force people to drive with consideration but what was going on must have been clear to the marshals round the track and these drivers should have been black flagged. I know Alan moved a few cars into the fast session after lunch and the afternoon was a lot better but the day was ruined for many of our drivers who normally only run in our days where we have full sessions to ourselves and we stick to the rules. There were a few other more minor issues, like the sighting laps where we came back into the pits after 2 laps and sat there for the rest of the 20 mins, the paddock being blocked for a time by large trucks and noise testing in general. As a suggestion, could noise testing start at 7.30 on these busy GP circuit days and could the 3 groups be allocated timeslots so first 30 mins for group 1, then group 2 and the last group after briefing? I did a similar day with LoT on 27 June and it was great, but their drivers all share the same ethos as MGoT. The GP circuit is so good to drive that I want to encourage MGoT to still have the opportunity to take part in trackdays there but unless we can see some positive changes I doubt many people will want to come back. I look forward to your comments. Best regards Dave

Thanks for posting the email trail, Dave. A great pity for the day itself but sounds like they are taking the issue seriously, albeit that it would have been better to deal with the issues on the day rather than retrospectively.

Thanks Dave A quick response so that's a positive and only time will tell about track behaviour and their marshalling. I do have some video evidence as we run with a dashcam. Sound testing - They seem to have listened to your suggestion albeit they can't start earlier. Perhaps they need to properly man it so they can get the volume of cars thru in time or restrict the cars so that they can Lorries - Not convinced they have really taken it onboard, also too many non track vehicles in the area which just increased the logistics off getting back to your garage when coming back off the track Regards Mark PS: Sorry, misunderstood your earlier email re website/feedback, I thought you were referring to MSV!

Despite the problems with the day I did really enjoy driving the GP circuit after the tins tops had settled down or gone home. Put my name down for another day there if we are able to arrange a MG session as per our usual days.
