Dave
Hopefully you'll all have seen the email from Rog Parker. We've yet to be given the full go-ahead, but it looks like we can have a stand at the MGOC Brands Hatch event on 14/15th May. We'd have enough room for a gazebo and two cars! Barry and Tim have already volunteered to man our stand on one of the days, with their cars on display (no not the Caterham Tim:rolleyes: - cars have to remain static from 08:00 until 17:30. I too can only do the Sunday. Nevertheless, it seems we already have a core of people to make it viable :D My thought was to try to involve a few of our willing helpers - people like Michael Sparks, Andy Mount, Ralph Gadsby and Mike Hall (although Mike's in Gloucester which is a bit far!) SteveH can't make the weekend, but has come up with the idea of doing another North Weald prize draw - sounds a good idea to me. We need a * few more helpers to make a rota of it * gazebo * table * display of some sort * event owner Over to you guys for debate.

I should be around that weekend although having said that the dates do ring a bell for some other reason :( I'm not sure we need actual cars on display, after all any car can do a track day. Ours isn't a material product, hence a genuinely relevant display is a bit tricky but I think we got it right at Silverstone last year. Could we not simply repeat that formula?
I should be around that weekend although having said that the dates do ring a bell for some other reason :(
Let us know when you've checked Bob, so that we know whether to build you into the stand rota.
I'm not sure we need actual cars on display, after all any car can do a track day.
Yes, no actual need - although a standard car demonstrates what you say - any car can do a track day :) Some people may not realise that!
Ours isn't a material product, hence a genuinely relevant display is a bit tricky but I think we got it right at Silverstone last year. Could we not simply repeat that formula?
I'ts fairly likely that we'll have no power, but otherwise if we can repeat the Silverstone stand and display, that would be fine.

Presumably we could power a lap top from a car battery? Might be up for attending the show as well - better check with the family first! But this will be an opportunity to chat to the MGOC shakers and movers - both regarding MGoT and also the MGF 10th Birthday event at Gaydon ;)
Presumably we could power a lap top from a car battery?
Good idea Rob - is there a standard solution for this that we can buy off the shelf?
... this will be an opportunity to chat to the MGOC shakers and movers - both regarding MGoT and also the MGF 10th Birthday event at Gaydon ;)
Good thinking - better square this one with Yimmy then!

I've got a cigar lighter adaptor (as used during Cannonball Run!) which produces 240v through a normal three pin domestic socket. Thing is it'd need the car ticking over all day :( PS There's a Chinook flying display at Brands on the Saturday. :D

Nice on Bob - that certainly saves us from having to buy an adapter! :) Okay Dave, will have a chat with Yimmy!

Attendance on either or both days (Sat 14th Sun 15th) is welcome with the only provisos being that any display cars be inside the main gates before 8am (otherwise brands officials will bar entry) and not be able to leave until 5pm (Both days). We would look to issue each display car with a vehicle pass and two tickets for driver and passenger. If you still fancy coming along then please let me know how many cars you would look to display on each day and a contact where the appropriate paperwork can be sent. I can source tables and a tent although it'd be a bit green and rather heavy duty for what we need. Might look ok at a Landrover rally :( The power supply I mentioned plugs in to the car cigarette lighter and as mentioned would require the vehicle to be left ticking over as I know it draws a fair amount of current.

Have spoken to Tim Morris and he's agreed to let us borrow the gazebo (his gazebo) that the F Register used at Brooklands. Think he might have some kind of display backing boards kicking around too. I can get miltary grade tables from work, and it sounds as though we have a good sourse of photographs, so all we need to do now is draw up a watch roster and find some power for a laptop. Don't think the car-based transformer will work. It's not the current drawn by the end user that matters; I seem to recall the gizmo itself will drain a battery quite spectacularly if left alone. I don't mind running with this as an event. Can't remember what else I was supposed to be doing that weekend! As well as photos Dave, could we get similar-sized curcuit outlines (like the car stickers) to form a header for a column-based display of the various photos? Circuit diagram and name at the top, several photos from that venue beneath? Just an idea. Still not sure how to employ actual vehicles.:( Final q: Is there any accommodation/camping at Brands? (and is the MGoT campervan up and running yet?)

(and is the MGoT campervan up and running yet?)
Bob, thanks for picking this up. Barry has also offered to pick up the stand rota and so if the two of you can work together that will be great :) I'm currently exploring how many non-committee member helpers we can get there (with or without cars). You should have seen the email I sent out as I copied you in. The thing about display cars is threefold: 1. people always are drawn to look at nice cars 2. the MGOC would like as many MGs on display as possible 3. each display car brings its owner a pair of free tickets! The last one is the key to our helpers :) I'm now awaiting their replies - having spelt out that they only get the free tickets in exchange for their car being stranded from 8am until 5pm! Once we know who will be there and on which days Barry can draw up a rota. From the committee I currently have: Bob - both days Barry - Saturday Tim - one day - could be either Dave - Sunday Anyone else? In terms of the display, I'll bring the photos from Brands to Donington. I'll ask Jonathan Lee about any others from Anglesey and Silverstone. I'll also check with him about the video - I suspect it will be a DVD format. As far as the rest of the display is concerned Neil and Jennie may have some of the components from last Silverstone lurking in their attic. Anything new will have to be made up by whoever can do it in the timeframe. I have no particular facilities other than a colour printer. Barry may be able to help with any ideas you have. Alternatively, the signwriters that SteveC uses for the stickers may help. Small sums spent on stuff that can be re-used seems fine to me. We'll need some form of large logo. We can't use our normal banner as it has an MGCC badge on it!

Had an idea reference vehicles.... What if we get as many different models as possible (up to our six obviously) and run with the line "What have all these MGs got in common?" (...made up on a banner if we're extremely lucky :( ) I see only two small snagettes..... a) Sourcing said variety of models bearing in mind we have only single figures on our books for some of the rarer models and: b) Convincing their owners to go to Brands. Can't we use the MGCC banner with the Abingdon Shield of Absolute Power blanked out?

We'll know more when these people reply to the last email. Would be good if we could get an MGA and a B just to even things out a bit. Think we definitely need to include a Midget and the ZT-T to exaggerate the variety catered for.
As far as the rest of the display is concerned Neil and Jennie may have some of the components from last Silverstone lurking in their attic.
We do have a number of the display items from Silverstone last year, however, they are not weather proof. Jennie and my time is severely restricted throughout this year so it is not going to be possible for us to simply rattle up some more displays for Silverstone if last year's are damaged. The other problem is actually getting them to someone without damaging them. Jennie is away most of this week but I'll see if there's a way I can get some of the display items to her before Thursday evening so she can hand them over. Get them damaged though and you have been warned. From our experience last year the display items can take many hours and days to produce something satisfactory.
Dave, Did we not have an offer for printing from one of the MGB guys at Brands this year....? I can't remember the chaps name.
Yes, it's Peter Fellingham - the chap who brought the Aston Martin at Brands because his MGA was out of action. Printing isn't really what we need though, as we want some one-off signs - hence my thought about SteveC's sign-writers that make the stickers.

So, we've (Me, Dave 'n' Steve over curry last night) sort of decided on some kind of tent/gazebo/non-permanent structure as a centre piece. Also reckon four cars, a Midget, an MGB, an F and a ZT in order to accentuate the diversity we cater for, with the teaser line "What have all these MGs got in common?" Could we get that made up on a banner in time and within budget? :( The answer "They're all out of production now" doesn't count, but "They've all been on MGoT track days" does. Also, if we go with the prize draw idea (which I think we should), which event will we use as the prize. If NW hasn't been programmed yet I feel we're on to a non-starter if we go offereing places for that as an incentive.

If you're struggling to get a ZT, then oddly enough, I just happen to own a ZTT CDTi ;) Complete with baby seat of course! LOL Still not 100% sure whether I can make it to Brands that weekend, but if either of my MGs are required, then I'll double my efforts to get there! Might also be an opportunity to nick my DPI gauges back from Tim! ;)

 Bloody hell! Just got your mail Dave, copied from Rog Parker. RIGHT NEXT to the main MGOC marquee?!!!! No pressure then. And a plasma screen display? The MGoT Xpress beckons! We should get an MGoT flag and I could get the boys doing hte flying display to fly it from the aircraft for the final fly-past. I've arranged for collection of the temporary tented accommodation from Tim Morris. He doesn't really have any display boards, so I'll bring a clutch of trestle tables from work as discussed. The gazebo (or tent if erected in the Midlands) has no fully fitting sides which could be a problem if it rains. Guess we'll just have to think happy thoughts all weekend. I'll also assume pwer will be available and bring extention leads etc although my laptop is still being "repaired" by the elusive Mr Dickens. Any joy on a banner as mentioned earlier in the thread? (Is it worth maybe looking at getting a promotional gazeboey-tenty-marquee thingy with our logo on it? Can you get the helicopters painted in MGoT livery in time Bob? ;) Power source: I thought that we were going to take along a 12v DC to 240v AC power converter to run the computer from a car battery?

Bob, Jonathan Lee is sending a revised DVD to you by post. I'm posting some more display photos that Jonathan's sent me. I'll also send hard copy of some handouts. You mentioned that you could photocopy them at work. I'm thinking of just two: * General MGoT flyer * Cadwell entry form It would be worth spending a couple of quid on plastic literature racks. Do you have a local 'Staples' or similar? Please can you and Barry try to establish just how people get their cars on display before 8 a.m. - see http://pitlane.mgs-on-track.com/showthread.php?p=3019#post3019 We also need to continue to chase Rog about possible power or showing the DVD on the Plasma scree :D I've asked Neil (by email) if 9th Sept is firm enough for us to do a North Weald prize draw. If so we need to get entry forms done etc. I'll try to dig out the one from last Silverstone and send this with the other handouts. Can anyone think of anything else?
Can borrow a couple of these from work.
Ok great :) - though they are pretty cheap and we'll need some for Silverstone as well. Fair point Dave, Slogans are a bit News of the World, and I like to see us more as Sunday Telegraph ;) Can we get another banner made in time? Where did the last one come from? MGCC I presume. Any more thoughts on the MGoT gazebo idea?
Can we get another banner made in time? Where did the last one come from? MGCC I presume. Any more thoughts on the MGoT gazebo idea?
Yes, the banner we've got was made by the MGCC for Silverstone. We'd have to make our own this time - hence my thoughts about SteveC's signwriters, who seem pretty reasonable on costs. Depending on how much extra dosh would be required a personalised gazebo would be worth pursuing too - I've no idea what this would look like though. Could a banner be made that would attach to a standard Gazebo and so be multi-purpose? There's not much time left to try and sort this. Have you spoken to Barry yet? He may know some suppliers.

Cannonball Bob
Couldn't remember if it was Barry or SteveC who had signwriting contacts so I thought I'd post here as well as phoning individually! Will try Steve tomorrow 1st thing. I think the gazebo idea needs pursuing, it'd be ideal for next weekend (possibly too late by now) and elsewhere in future be it as a marketing tool or as a temporary signing-on office at places like North Weald for example. Dare I say it but XPF have a good one which features the logo and URL although a quick Google suggests around £500 would be needed :( Time for another MGCC grant? :o

Our Track Plate supplier, Gould, will make a banner and they have our artwork. Call Sam on 01275 853 853 Use the existing one as the model, make sure it has eyelets for attaching.

OK, permission to spend money please Mr Chariman! :o The logs side is almost complete. Collecting the gazebo (or tent in the Midlands) this afternoon, and have blagged some display boards from work. Luckily it's the Sqn's 90th anniversary tomorrow (tea and medals all round) so the hangar's full of historial tat such as a Wessex, a "liberated" Argentine G-Wagen and various bits of Iraq, but in amongst it all are numerous display boards. Identical make and model as the one's N&J got for Silverstone last year so all the material will work again. In fact, we're on course to replicate our stand. Just spoken to Barry and he's suggested the prize draw be for £50 off one of our events which makes sense bearing in mind we have nothing firm in the way of either NW or a repeat of a Donny evening. I'm just off to Hooters to recruit some bikini-wearing MGoT promo-girls. :p

All looking good Bob :) I've just sent an email to you and Barry re a number of the above. Unless anyone objects violently I would have thought common sense should prevail and without a committee meeting to authorise we could spend * around £100 ish on a banner * reasonable expenses on any photocopying, bits and bobs etc. Note - the above does not include Hooters girls :p

That'd be good Steve. Then, instead of Robbie William's crooning on the MGoT DVD, we could have that little ditty with the title "Who let the dogs out"... Fingers crossed for the weather at the weekend!
How was it, chaps?
Thanks to some stirling persistence by Bob to transfer as much as he could from his dead Landy to his MGF at 6.30am and to some equally swift footwork from Tim with his dogwalking friends at an equally unearthly hour, the stand apparently took shape under Bob, Tim and Barry's guidance on Saturday morning. Barry had organised a great display of cars and I gather they were a fantastic draw on a cold start to the weekend. Saturday saw 31 people sign up to the prize draw - great work guys. :D Rob and I must have been more laid-back as even with Bob's ongoing help and an another head-turning car display, thanks to Steve White's '05 TF in 'Bittersweet', we only added a further 10 names to the draw. The sunshine may have contributed to a lazier approach, not just by us, but also the punters - with many sunbathing around the circuit watching the racing. All in all - a great weekend that included some more face to face contact between MGoT and MGOC (Richard Monk, Rog Parker and Julie Neville). As to the 41 sign-ups... the majority, as you'd expect were from the South East, although there was one Scottish, one Cornish and a couple of Welsh entries. Most were MGBs, Midgets and MGFs, but there were five Z cars as well. All but six gave email addresses and the majority added in postal addresses and telephone numbers. Most were beginners with just five intermediate and one advanced. I've just emailed them all. I guess I'll have to write to the six without email addresses :(

I took quite a few including lots of the Discovery Home & Leisure channel interview. Slight problem....Just upgraded to Broadband which uses one USB port, and have a USB mouse, and only two ports and require another one to plug my camera in to....until I can get a hub. (See? It's all a big conspiracy. Dial up is too slow so pay to get broadband....need a USB hub. Buy a USB hub, buy more gadgety bits to plug in to it. More gadgety bits = more software = PC upgrade and so it goes on:rolleyes: )

A great day - apart from the bloke selling perfume via a megaphone. Thanks to Tim for rescuing us with an excellent Gazebo and Bob for turning it into a windproof military base. looking forward to your pics Bob - I think Michaels V8 was a massive draw and it was a real bonus to get the TV interviews - Ihope we get to see some of them. I'll send round a thanks to the all the helpers - a great effort and good experience for future events. cheers Barry
