Dave
I'm conscious that I'm the only one seeing most of the queries about bookings and that I tend to reply to them off my own bat rather than consult. Here's a good example of an increasingly common situation, which I've taken a positon on, but feel the need to open up for debate. Please read the email thread below and let me have your views. Thanks. I'm glad you're keeping the F :-) MGs on Track (MGoT) is based on a few fundamental principles. One of these is that the cars (and drivers) are very compatible with each other and that it's safer to run around a circuit with other MGs than if the track were filled with track day exotica. This is particularly important with beginners although it counts pretty strongly for most of us who are 'recreational' track dayers rather than track day junkies! That means that for the most part we do what it says on the tin - MGs on track. OK, there is the odd non-MG because someone has a friend who desperately wants to come with them or someone's MGA breaks down, so they bring their Aston Martin DB7 (true!) Nevertheless, in all of this the number of non-MGS is a very small number and crops up through circumstance rather than design. Where we have had someone in a similar situation to you (an MGC owner who also has a Caterham) we have discriminated against him! For Brands, the other week he wanted to bring the Caterham and so we kept him on the reserve list. We would have offered him a place if we had a spare one at the last minute. However, unfortunately for him, this didn't happen. I should say that this discrimination was entirely overt! I explained this to him way before Xmas when he first wanted to go on the 'interested' list and he understands the situation. He does use the MGC on track days as well. So, now that we've set a precedent, I guess we have a policy! In other words, we'll always give MGs preference. I hope you understand. Having said that, the other aspect of compatibility is the driver and we'd much rather have an 'MG enthusiast' driving a scooby than anyone else! The track days most likely to need a few extra numbers are 1. Anglesey - 11th March 2. Silverstone - 11th April 3. Cadwell Park - 13th June. However, as I said I can't guarantee anything, unless you want to bring the F ;-) Kind regards, Dave -----Original Message----- From: Neil Sutton [mailto:neilsutton@supanet.com] Sent: 15 February 2005 23:38 To: dave@mgs-on-track.com Subject: Re: MGoT Newsletter - Brands was great; next - Anglesey Dave, Just a quick question, I've recently brought a WRX Impreza, I'm quite tempted at some point to take it on the track for just one track day, as its a real licence loser on the roads. Would I be able to go on a MGoT Event, even though it isn't an MG ? Its just I would rather go on a track day with people I know rather that people I don't. The thing is I'm not sure what other people would think to sharing a track with it. Don't worry I've still got the F, the Scooby is just my new "play thing", and something with a big boot to take stuff to the dump etc ..... Cheers, Neil.

Dave, I thought we had a MG Rover policy? But other than that, I think that your stance is quite correct. Were we struggle to make up places, then an MG enthusiast in another make of car is more than welcome. :)

Here's another recent piece of correspondence with a 216 GSi owner. First, we are predominantly an MG group, but we do have several Rovers on our list - mainly Tomcats. You'd be more than welcome in your 214GSi and I'm sure you'll find that many of the cars at the beginner's event will be slow :-) Believe me, bhp doesn't mean an awful lot on the track. It's much more about getting the lines right! You don't need a clean license, as long as it's valid you're fine. So, shall I add you to the 'interested' list for the beginner's evening? Regards, Dave -----Original Message----- From: Trask, Sam (GE Trans, Non-US) [mailto:Sam.Trask@ae.ge.com] Sent: 14 February 2005 09:32 To: 'dave@mgs-on-track.com' Subject: Beginners Event Hi Dave, I'm not a member of your site but I am interested and was given the link to your site by the www.mg-rover.org forums. I just have a couple of questions: Are you exclusively for MG owners or are Rovers welcome also? Also, are slower cars going to be welcome at the beginners event? (I have a 214GSi) And finally, is a clean license required to take part? (I have 3 points) Regards, Sam Trask

Must admit I find it a bit confusing that now he's got a Scooby Neil Sutton wants to come on a track day after two years of adamantly refusing to do so with the F. I say stick with the "policy" you've hinted at Dave.
