Hi, I've done a few MGoT days, but not with an 'open pit lane' element. I get the basic idea, but could someone explain how it works with a limit of 12 cars on track? Thanks, Martin.

The idea is that you can go on and off the track as often as you like but when the limit of cars is reached the controlling marshal in the pit lane allows no more cars out, until one or more come off, where upon that number of cars are then released on track. It should work as a seamless flow so that the track is full at all times. That way there is no down time between all cars coming off the circuit before the next session, who will be straining at the leash, is released! Of course all flags still apply, so if some sod has knocked a cone over coming through the chicane you all have to come off track, on a red flag, while the offending article is re-erected! Cheers, Richard

Thanks Richard, So we depend on the usual good standards of behaviour and no 'hogging the track', or is there a time limit if someone gets carried away and thinks they're doing an endurance event? :) Cheers Martin.

Hi MRP Richard gives a fairly good description of Open Pit Lane (except the idea is to NOT hit cones... Richard :D ) The open pit lane at Castle Combe will be a first for MGs on Track at will be monitored very carefully to see if this can be done again in the future. Whilst there is no time limit on track, in my experience most drivers tend to come in before the amount of time they would have had, had it been session-ed. MGoT track days are very unlike commercial track days. We are all a very friendly bunch and usually quite content to form an orderly 'British' queue and share things equally! :)

In my view on the many trackdays I've done is open lane is without doubt the best way to run.... If its probably run of course. Theses only normally a bit of a back log first thing in morning and after dinner as everyone for some reason always seem to be in a rush to get out but are normally back in within a few laps after they have cooked everything
