Today we held our MGoT committee meeting at which we plan the 2015 season. Now we need your help with an important decision. The price we have to pay to hire tracks for our events goes up every year, but this year the price to hire Silverstone circuit has gone up considerably. We have three choices; keep the date to the Monday (16th March) at a price of £230 (MGCC members), move the event to Tuesday 17th March at a price of £170 (MGCC members) or drop Silverstone from our event calendar. In order to ,make it easy for you to express your preference, we have set up a poll on our forum where you can vote for a) Monday, b) Tuesday, c) I am not interested. We really need your input to make a decision that you the membership will support. Please cast your vote by midnight on Wednesday 26th November.

Silverstone 2015 Nigel, I have voted for the Tuesday but could there be another option to hire the shorter circuit rather than the GP, which surely would be cheaper?

Silverstone 2015 Hi Nigel, I have voted for the Tuesday purely on cost  but would go with Monday if that was the concensus. Others have suggested using a shorter Silverstone circuit but I would prefer the full GP track. As far as using a different circuit completely I would be happy with either Mallory or Cadwell . . . . . . what about Oulton Park as a third option? Neil

To add, i agree with deeps comments "I have voted for the Tuesday purely on cost  but would go with Monday if that was the concensus. Others have suggested using a shorter Silverstone circuit but I would prefer the full GP track." In my opinion, Silverstone GP circuit is still an iconic track we cannot afford to loose from our calendar.:D Stu

Makes no real difference to me which day Hi It makes no real difference to me which day it is and therefore on cost vote for Tuesday. 2014 was my first taste of track days having done Cadwell and Donnington and I've thoroughly enjoyed them although a dry day at Donnington would have been better ;-). For 2015 I've not decided which ones yet but Goodwood and Silverstone are both circuits I would like to do at sometime. Regards Mark

I've not yet sorted the car so might not have something to drive by then, but The day of the week does not make any difference to me, although if I hire a trailer it's easier to do for a Tuesday than a Monday. The cost difference is not much, I'm spending that much on fuel for the day anyway. Please, Don't drop Silverstone GP from the calendar, in my view it has the least problems with inattentive drivers blocking the track and the excellent facilities make it very comfortable off track.

I have just voted for Tuesday based only on cost. I would prefer to have the full GP circuit any day of the week rather than lose it from the calendar. I always look for Silverstone, Goodwood and now Snetterton as my core 3 tracks each year. Brands is always a bonus but the indy circuit. GP looked fantastic but was a little expensive. Therefore Silverstone GP at £170 gets my vote. Steve

I have voted for Tuesday although I probably wont be there in 2015 and definitely wouldn't want the track dropped from the schedule. It is a privilege to be able to drive the British F1 track in my MG.

Just to re-echo what has been said above, I do feel it would be to the detriment of MGoT to lose the Silverstone GP Track from the annual calendar. Personally, it's the one event I've only done every year I've had an F/TF. I fully understand the issue regarding Silverstone pricing and have consequently voted for the Tuesday, but should add that work issues around that time may preclude me attending next year. (Hopefully the last year of any such possible issues :D:D:D )

Silverstone 2015 Hi Nigel, I've gone for Monday. Living in Southport, this is an over night stay for us. Tuesday would mean taking two days off work, and additional costs for a weekday hotel rate, rather than the less expensive Sunday night stay. Last time we came for the track day at Silverstone I clocked up 90 miles on track. £230 still feels like good value to me. This is Silverstone after all. But I know times are hard. After all that, I'll still be booking! Thanks James.

Although technically not eligable now to take part without an MG, I have voted for the Tuesday on cost grounds. It would mean 1 night away either day for me so that makes little difference to me. Silverstone GP has always been the jewel in our crown and the premier event for MGoT. Although we now need a partner for the event and have done for several years. Would changing to Tuesday have an impact on LoT being the partner? I wonder why the huge price difference between the Monday over the Tuesday? I would have thought Silverstone's costs for staff etc. are the same for any weekday, but could understand the hike for a Saturday or Sunday. Comparing the £230 against commercial TDO's, Well they all seem to be around the £250 for this year. I cannot see anybody advertising Silverstone GP dates for 2015 yet, but it will be interesting to see once they are available for comparison. I suspect there are a dwindling number of MG owners who want to do track days, no new MG models to attract new followers and it will probably be some time before they have a model to have the impact the F had when it was introduced. It may be the hard fact that the club will have to face that it will lose Silverstone GP for that simple reason. Anyway the committee are doing a fantastic job, the potential choice of tracks for 2015 is fantastic, so keep up the good work.

Definitely keep Silverstone GP, as has already been said, it is the jewel in the crown and a privilege to drive this circuit! Either day is not a problem for me, nor is the cost, however the extra saved on the Tuesday would pay for overnight accomodation. I will go with the majority decision and whatever the committee decides. Would like to say what an excellent job the committee do in organising all these fantastic events for us, extremely grateful. :) Cheers, Richard

Hi Nigel, As which day doesn't matter to me I have opted for the cheaper Tuesday. It would be very sad not to have a day at our grand prix circuit on those fast wide open spaces ! Commercially it seems £250 doesn't buy an awful lot. A session at Brands GP with LOT also brings things into perspective. How lucky we are to have ace negotiator Steve H !! Regards Doug

I must have been asleep, so missed this poll, but some comments. Was the evening session we previously had not possible ? Or didn't get enough support to be viable ? Although the GP circuit is not the same without Bridge, some of the new twists are awkward in a B, and Hanger straight is just a drag ( but then getting Stowe right is a great pleasure ), it really is one that members should experience. It would also be nice to have the Club circuit ( or whatever it is now called ) also in the calendar. ( But not that silly Stowe circuit ). If I was voting, I would go for the cheaper Tuesday; but my view might be biased - - I'm retired, so don't lose any extra days off for a stopover night before. - I live 30 minutes away, so don't lose any extra days ( or costs ) for a stopover night before. Overall I think the MGoT 'season' is good value, the Committee's work is much appreciated.
