I will be fitting new rear discs shortly. The front are 304's grooved with standard mintex pads that came with the discs. I was wondering if it was worth loading the rear brake pads with more aggressive pads such as EBC yellows or reds? Any thoughts or recommendations?

I ran a similar set up on my Trophy and found Yellow stuff on the rear to be quite effective (forget Green stuff, they will just crumble) I find it helps a little in balancing out the excessive braking on the front. Having said that, I have just replaced my rears with Mintex 1166

I run yellow stuff front and back on a TF with the 304mm front discs. The back pads wear very quickly (3 sets in 18 months or so) so they must be doing something! The balance feels fine. I agree with Steve that green stuff will not take the punishment of a track day, I had much the same result when I had them on my Midget.

Curiously I've been running Green stuff front and rear for the last 5 years at least. Only one experience of minor edge crumbling on the rear when I didn't give them a few days to bed in before using on track.

I run Green Stuff all round. I find that I need to change the rears every year and the fronts do a couple of seasons. Have been contemplating a change to yellow stuff on the backs but not done so yet.

I think the order EBC pads run in is Green, Red then Yellow... Green work from cold, Red need a little heat, Yellow need a lot of heat to get the best from them and then vice versa... Yellow will withstand higher brake temperatures, then Red, then Green. The problem I found with Green stuff was they tended to crumble around the edges, probably from getting too hot.....

Thank you all. I suspect you all do more track days than me - but I have booked Silverstone and hope to get another in this year. I will try something - maybe reds or yellows - not sure I could stretch to the price of the 1166's this time! And will check my front pads as I did Donington last year but havent looked at the pads since.

I should be moving to Red Stuff then probably:o

Everything fitted a couple of weeks ago including a new pair rear callipers that have helped to improve the braking too. Should be nicely bedded in by Silverstone.
