Bob,
We do ask for an MOT certificate to prove roadworthiness. This helps us to avoid scrutineering. Of course, the car doesn't need to be taxed and insured for the road, so the idea of just getting a race car MOT'd for track days is fine. However, he will need to run on road going tyres on the day - no slicks!
