If you've got a requirement for standard caliper mintex pads, probably the best thing to do is to get these from Brown and Gammons or Mike Satur.
Rear standard pads will cost £74.82 + VAT.
Sorry Rob I'm a bit confused by the use of the word standard in a couple of places.
If I want 1177s on standard rear calipers do I get them from B&G/MS or from you?

LOL - plenty of opportunity for confusion here, I guess - not helped by a typo in my original post - d'oh! I'll put that right now...
What we're talking about here are car-set pads (i.e. total of four) for:

AP racing 4 pot caliper over 304mm rotor

'Standard' front sliding single pot caliper over 240mm rotor

'Standard' rear sliding single pot caliper over 240mm rotor
The 'Standard' rear pads will suit all MGFs and TFs whether or not fitted with the AP front calipers. These we're ordering from Questmead, and will cost £74.82+VAT (£87.92).
The 'Standard' front pads I'll arrange a group purchase from another supplier - either B&G or Mike Satur: TBA.

UPDATE: AP racing front pads only
Thanks to Mike (cheers Mike!) it appears that anyone after 1177 pads for the AP racing front calipers should drop Mike Satur a line. He has these at a substantial discount over the price I was being offered from Questmead.
See http://www.mikesatur.co.uk/fx05.html
That's £70 + VAT.
Therefore, we'll concentrate on purchasing pads for the rear caliper...
Cheers
Rob

News Update
Spoke to Questmead this morning regarding the order: the factory has nearly completed processing the order, and Questmead anticipate sending the pads out sometime next week.
Other than Neil, who's having the pads delivered directly, your pads will be with me for collection (I'll bring them along to events, which is probably the easiest way of doing this)
Will let you all know when the pads arrive :D
|
22/02/2005 12:14:51
The pads have arrived - albeit to Tim's address rather than mine! D'oh!
Will get the pads distributed when we all meet up again at the next track event. :D
|
02/03/2005 11:08:03
Tim dropped the pads around at my place at the weekend, so I'll be bringing them along to all the events for collection :)
If anyone else wants a group buy of pads (Mintex 1144, 1166, 1177 or what ever) for their MG, please let me know! I know that Kev was interested for the ZS... :)

Hi Rob

I’ve tried to get hold of some 1177s for the AP front calipers from Mike Satur but apparently I have my wires crossed and they don’t have any.

Any idea where else I could get hold of some from? Or might there be enough interest for a group buy?

Thanks

Jennie,

I was originally going for 1177s all round for my next pad replacement, but have decided to stick with 1144s on the front AP calipers and just try 1177s on the back first. The rationale was to see how much difference there was between the 1144 to 1177 replacement on the rear and if this resulted in a better front to rear balance than the same pad all round. I don't feel that I have a problem at the moment with front/rear balance, but maybe 77s on the back and 44s on the front will be better than the same all round?

Sorry Jenny, come to this thread a week late :( Odd that Mike Satur lists the pad, but then says he doesn't have any? Perhaps Trish got the wrong end of the stick?
I know that B&G don't hold stock of AP 1177s, and nor do Techspeed. The MGFC, as you know, don't either. Bottom line is we'll have to get them made specially :( It may be possible for us to order 1177 pads for the AP caliper, but the same situation will exist for the AP caliper as it did for our ordering of the rear caliper: we'll need a minimum order of 10 car sets to get them manufactured.
One thing though: do you really WANT 1177 pads for your F? Might unduely unbalance the brake balance and make the brake performance worse. I think that Dave's approach of mixing 1144s on the AP front with 1177 at the rear could be a very good mix - will be interesting to see how you find that combination Dave.
Jenny, if we can get enough interest for another group buy, I am happy to get it going!

Jennie,
I had given Mike a call to get some 1177's but as Rob says Trish had got the wrong end on the stick, and infact Questmead have never made 1177 compound for the AP caliper. Instead Mike either has 1144's or Ceramic pads. I've bought a pair of the latter to see what there like but since the car has been laid up for the past 5 weeks I haven't fitted them yet.
For what it's worth I found that the original pads (which I think were 1144) with sport and racing discs and pads on the rear gave a good braking balance to the car.
Tim
