After a rather fraught couple of days. Couldn't get tyres so couldn't get an MoT. Tyres arrived but car failed Monday on emissions. So I fitted new plugs, cleaned air filter, bottle of injector cleaner and fitted new cat - hoping that it wasn't the lambda. Great - it passed re-test this morning. So see you all at Silverstone - if not before at the AGM on Sunday. By the way the whole process was helped by this rather nice tilting lift that my son Chris got me for my birthday :)

Tyres - from famine to feast. If all goes to plan I have a choice of tyres :- Falken Ziex ZE912 - which are, by the way, the latest to be approved by MG Motors for the TF, replacing the unobtainable GSD2s. (I believe testing was carried out by MIRA) or R888 of which I have two on rims and two coming down from Derby with Chris Friday night. I can get these fitted Saturday, that's what I'll be sporting
“The GSD2 Good Year tyre is the approved OE fitment to MGTF. This tyre (and NOT the GSD3) is still the only fully approved tyre for this vehicle. Where the GSD2 is unavailable, MG Motor recommends either the Falken Ziex ZE912 or the Toyo Proxes TI-R as appropriate. MG Motor has conducted limited testing on these alternatives to the Good Year when fitted as a car set. MG Motor currently has no data on extended tyre wear for these alternatives. Technical details of tyres tested:- Front – Falken Ziex 195/45 R16 80V I0123 Extra Load, country of manufacture - Thailand. Rear - Falken Ziex 215/40 R16 88W I0123 Extra Load, country of manufacture - Thailand. Front - Toyo Proxes T1-R 195/45 R16 80V PXT1-R-2 ANH3608, country of manufacture - Japan Rear - Toyo Proxes T1-R 215/40 R16 88W PXT1-R-3 ANH3608, country of manufacture - Japan MG Motor is committed to support the customer gain the most from their car and would advise strongly that tyres should be fitted as a vehicle set. He's already changed the front disks of his Passat and fiancée's Pug 205 exhaust using it. ;)

Have to take issue with you Tim that GSD2's are unobtainable ;) When I got the Cupra re-shod in December I enquired about GSD2 availability and after a call to Goodyear was told that the fronts were due to be manufactured in March and the rears in May/June. Even though those currently on the car have probably only covered about 7k, I placed a backorder for a set! My understanding is that Goodyear are obliged to be able to supply the tyres for ten(?) years after cessation of OE supply, and that to meet this obligation they are only batch run a couple of time per year. I know that the fronts are in, and when the rears are in I'll collect the set. As above, I don't need any at the moment (although that may be different after Monday :) ), but I know that I'll have them for when I do.

I have to take issue with you :D that GSD2s are available if, as you say, the rears are not due until May / June. That means I'd miss Silverstone, Donnington & Castle Combe. Toyo T1Rs are in a similar position - not due in from Japan until end March but with their problems, who knows.
