Track days in the North West Yes, it would be nice to have one or two events up here. I know that I have raised this before, and have been told that as most of the members are based in the SE, most of the events are down there. However if some events are held up here it could help to encourage MGOT membership in the NW. The new Anglesey circuit is one that MGOT have used on several occasions (teaming up with Lotus and MX5 clubs), but it has been about four years since the last visit. Unfortunately Oulton Park was not on the calendar this year, but has had a good turn out in the past. Will it be added to the 2011 calendar??

Hi John, This is a difficult one for all the reasons you've outlined in your own post. The committee would dearly love to have days at Oulton Park, Cadwell Park and Donnington on it's calendar every year. But the reality of the situation is that there isn't enough support for these days to enable us to take out a contract and be liable for the whole day. Certainly that statement is true for Oulton and Cadwell Park and it is interesting to note that our previous days at these two circuits the take up has been from something like 60-70% travelling up from down South, Donington is slightly different. Donington has always been a complete sell out without problem, however since the circuit has reopened the pricing has become unrealistic for us to commit to a day, they're talking figures in the region of the same as it will cost us to do our Silverstone GP circuit day and that we feel is not viable for us. 2011 is going to be another challenging year for us as club, there are so many things that may impact on days being successful, not only the tightening of peoples economic belts, but job insecurity are just two of the factors. We have no idea what impact any of these may have, but we have to provide a programme that doesn't put the club at too great a risk. We know from last year that partners who have shared our days in the past have seen a turndown in the take up of places, so we can't go down that route anymore. We are talking constantly with Lotus-on-Track, they have not completed their 2011 programme yet. We hope that via us being a partner to LoT, we can get at least a session at one or more of the above three tracks, but it has to be said it is a hope and not a given. There is one last thing to mention, as you say if we hold events in the North we may encourage MGoT membership in that area. Unfortunately I have to say that is what we have done in the past and that support has not materialised. We have always struggled to sell these events in the past, where Southern events have traditionally sold out within weeks of going on sale. But don't give up hope, if for no other reason than, 1. I long to return to Oulton Park, I've only been once and it wasn't enough 2. I have never done Cadwell Park and sooooooooo want to. 3. I want to experience the adrenalin rush of going down through the craner curves again

Much of our 2011 Calendar is now up on this site as provisional. The dates are pretty firm but we haven't fully sorted contracts so no prices or booking as yet excepting the Brands re-schedule, the LoT Bedford day, Goodwood which is already sold out and our traditional North Weald day. Hopefully some MSV circuits yet to be added; Oulton, Cadwell, Snetterton, as opportunity allows. We've not given upon Donny either but they need to get a bit more realistic with their pricing structure before many track day operators will commit. So what do you think of it so far ;) EDIT - Oh and maybe a single session at Rockingham in the offing too.

Looking pretty good! Has anyone given any thoughts to Llandow? I have raced there before and it crops up on other track day sites, well priced as well.

2011 Calender Well I suppose it's my own fault for living up North, but it looks like all that I will be doing in 2011 is Silverstone + Croft unless fingers crossed the likes of Cadwell and Oulton Park and especially Donny come to light. I would also be very interested in Rockingham as it was very good this year. Cheers Trevor. ( Happyy New Year to everyone.) Thumbs up for Rockingham Hi! I agree with Trevor that Rockingham was really good this year. Would love to go back as forced my Midget to its limit!! How about a return to Mallory? I was one of the chickens that bailed out before I got there this year ( Nice photo's in the snow and on U tube though!). Not sure what the pricing policy is with Donnington though? Is it really expensive? Interesting to see how fast Silverstone sells out this year but I'm all ready! (Just call me 'bonnet man' ). Thanks to the team though for all the hard work they put into organisation of these days. PS. Its OK Trevor - Someone has to live in the North!:) Roger

If the opportunity arrises to do Rockingham I'd be interested and if there are spaces on the Brands hatch re-scheduled date I'd also be interested! I'm not a regular on here - but like to try and do one a year, usually ends up being Brands, as I live 10 minutes down the road! Thanks

But as you say it is good value and something we shall bear in mind, but we feel 2011 is not going to be the year to try new venues.

Indeed Martin it is not that big but it did hold some pretty hairy saloon races many moons ago. I raced an Audi GT Coupe around there a few times against various other formula some 18 years ago. I thought you may be somewhat busy nowadays, I know the feeling only too well myself! Will you be in attendance at Goodwood in Feb?
we feel 2011 is not going to be the year to try new venues.
I would like to propose a look at a track day at Oulton Park in 2012! I was there in 2009 and had a great day. I would like to do this one again as it is a long circuit with many challenging corners and crests, which I found a challenge (especially in the wet).:p What do you say Martin, can this be considered?

We can't really commit to whole day at these on our own, so at the moment we are talking to Lotus-on-Track and if they have days at these circuits that fit in with our programme we are more than likely to take a session with them. If that does not come off then we will continue to talk to the circuits, with Oulton and Cadwell we will see if we can get a session on an MSV day. With Donington we will continue to discuss options with them in the hope that their pricing becomes more realistic.

The new Snetterton 300 circuit looks good! Is there any chance of going there this season or next?

The other thing to bear in mind is of course we are entirely voluntary run and our calendar for this year is pretty full now. There is gap from begining of September to end of October and we are trying to fill that, but where it will be is yet to be decided.
