I know it is a little while away and the event won't go on sale until towards the end of January. But if you are travelling and need a room on the Sunday night (20th March), Travelodge, Towcester, Silverstone, have rooms at £19 now, I've just booked :D Have a look here, http://www.travelodge.co.uk/explore_the_uk/?tab=map_find Then enter the postcode = NN12 6TQ

I'm hoping that I might be able to make this track day, but there is still a lot of work to do to complete the car. One question... it says 'Silverstone GP' is the track, so does this include the new Arena section or are we using the old bridge corner? Joe

Joe
Hi Joe, Happy New Year to you and get your finger out and get the car completed in time for this ;) Yes this day is on the new Arena GP circuit (the thread is Silverstone New GP), as used for the first time at the 2010 British GP. This circuit does NOT include the old Bridge Corner, have a look here at map, http://webmail.gridhost.co.uk/?_task=mail&_mbox=INBOX&_refresh=1 It is 1/2 mile longer than the old GP circuit. Silverstone still show the old GP circuit layout, now known as the Bridge GP Circuit, but they have been telling everybody they are not taking bookings for this circuit this year. Really hope you can get the car done in time, it would be great to see you. :D

The Arena circuit looks really good on TV, especially the fast right at Abbey. It is a little bit disappointing to loose Bridge though because that was a great corner. I am working every evening and most weekends on the car at the moment. It's on its wheels and I pinned all the body panels, fitted the rebuilt gearbox and the steering rack, column and wheel over Christmas. Just got to finish building the engine now which at the moment is just a short block on the stand. The last time this car was on a circuit was October '08!! Nearly there now.

Joe I too was dissapointed to lose bridge corner but having now done the new arena circuit I prefer the new track. The new section is actually quite difficult to master. Personally I think its really good and am Doing a trackday there on 5th Feb and having some instruction. Hope no one minds but I have jumped ship for 21st March and booked up with LOT. Mark

How many cars allowed on track each session ??? LoT website appears to show 20 places sold and 24 places still available .. That makes for a rather crowded track if they only have 1 session .. More info please ..

Hi Gary Not really if you consider the new GP circuit is well over four miles, we traditionally have run round around 40 a session (We normally aim at 10 cars per mile or there abouts) but from memory we have had to increase it just a little to keep the price good for you guys.. I think it might be 45 this year mate. I'm sure one of the others will remind me !! :D Its still well below the commercial boys....... I'm hoping to make it this year too Hugs to Di Stu & Pat

Hi all, New circuit is actually 3.666 miles long, just under 1/2 mile longer than the old circuit on which we ran 40 cars. This year we are going to run 43 cars in our sessions, LoT in there session may choose to run more, but that will be their decision. Our rule of thumb is 12 cars per mile to keep things comfortable, although we do stretch that some times depending on the circuit. All cicuits have a maximum number of cars on circuit, which with Silverstone and MSV circuits we are well under. Circuits like Goodwood and Castle Combe have planning restrictions which mean although we would love to run more cars and the circuits could easily take them, we can't because of those planning restrictions.

Sorry to hear that Stu. Looks like we'll be up to the wire with our car too. Getting new tyres has been keeping the MoT pending. Finally managed to get some, only to find there's a bent rim. See what I can do today and then in for the test early in the week. X fingers on it passing first time.
