There are two discussions arising from our committee meeting of 30th October. They are similar, but different! They are: 1. How do we get more people on our mailing list? 2. How do we get more people on our mailing list to attend track days. The current statistics show that we have just over 510 people on our mailing list. This still increases slightly over time, but we have plateaued since the big rise after becoming a branch of the MGCC and having our regular column in Safety Fast. Of these less than a third (161 people) have actually attended an event, if we include North Weald events. The vast majority (114 people or 71%) have only attended one event. Another 15% (24 people) have attended 2 and only 14% (23 people) have attended 3 or more. This thread is to discuss how we might increase the 161 number i.e. increase the attendance at events from the people already on the mailing list.

Have an event or session specifically for novices, price to include instruction. Do this early in the season, Silverstone?

Yep, a total novices day. As well as actual driving we could give short presentations on helmets, clothing and natty red race boots, a longer briefing on safety and flags etc with example scenarios talked through, a longer look round a car and how the bits react differently to being on track and physically demonstrate bit by bit how to prepare it (even including obvious-to-us stuff like removing the mats), and how about this....a walk round the circuit (or bits of it). Leave no stone unturned, no question unanswered. Down side is it'd be expensive (lots of lost track time) and a heavier work load. Maybe a static morning of walk'n'talk with an open pitlane afternoon, speed restricted at first? Bit like one of those brewery tours where you have the anorak bit in the morning, then sample the product after lunch.

I like the novices evening idea - we might be able to do those at the smaller more regional circuits and so have everything going for the newbie - proximity, low cost, special targeted event, plenty of help etc. It would mean some effort for us perhaps, in terms of travel to run them, but it could be great fun. It ought to be possible to get a cheap couple of hours in the evenings at some of these circuits, just like the Scots boys do with Knockhill.

Apart from the cache of Donny, it is also a great geographical location for many people.

Donny evening response Reasonably encouraging response so far. The newsletter went out about yesterday afternoon. As of 10.30 this morning I have 13 people who are interested to hear more. It's still a far cry off 30 cars - my gut feel is 20 max.
