Hi, I have booked on the mixed marque session, but I did not see the option for helmet hire. Is this avalible, or can we hire on the day? Thanks Richard

Hi Richard, We only have a small number of helmets and they are on the MG session. We will have to check the situation with Silverstone and let you know. Martin.

Yes, I was thinking of attending too, but if I can't hire a helmet on the day, what other option is there without forking out for one of my own (not worth it for occasional use)? Thanks Martin ________ affair Cams

Thanks Martin
Martin We have a number of helmets for hire, they are presently all allocated to the MG sessions. So if you would like to join and drive the Silverstone GP circuit all you need to do is make sure that you book into the MG session, not the Mixed Marque session and add helmet hire to your booking. A helmet is then reserved for you. We will attempt to get some helmets for hire from Silverstone and make them available also. Hope that this helps you to join us. :)

If there is no chance of being able to hire one at silverstone, then Ill just have to buy a couple (there are two of us doing this) Does anyone have any suggestions for a good (cheap) helmet that will allow us to race? Im getting confused about whats needed and whats not. Would this be good enough? Or would this be a better bet? http://www.hedtec.co.uk/hedtec_helmet_open_face.htm

http://www.hedtec.co.uk/hedtec_helmet_open_face.htm
There is considerable confusion and inconsistency at the moment regarding helmet requirements. Some circuits stipulate that they must comply with the MSA Blue Book and some don't. The MSA Blue Book for 2010 has changed the spec to rule out non-fire retardant helmets. So if you are going to buy a helmet you would be wise to make sure that it is fire retardant and that it complies with MSA Blue Book 2010.

Good value when put up against BS6658 Type A/FR. At the moment the type BS6658 - 85 A is OK for track day use, but as Steve has said if I were buying a helmet I would buy one that meets current MSA standards. That should ensure you are covered, but of course the MSA can change their standards in the future. As has happened now, most of us have helmets to BS6658 - 85 A which we've had for a few years.
