Bearing in mind the comments here: http://www.mgs-on-track.com/index.php?PageID=81 would those of you who attended Donington mind stating whether they were insured for the day? Just out of interest really. Thanks

I took out no insurance for the car, but my wife insisted i took out personal cover. I think she fancied the mortgage paid off! Must check the brakes ;)

Always covered
Bearing in mind the comments here: http://www.mgs-on-track.com/index.php?PageID=81 would those of you who attended Donington mind stating whether they were insured for the day? Just out of interest really. Thanks
Yep ... I was covered. I've heard too many complete write-off stories to risk it. Don't get me wrong, the risks are extremely low but I can't afford a complete loss and also I've found that without it I'm that little more reserved and hesitant which takes the edge off the day. In any case, it doesn't have to be your own fault as there is no liability if someone else causes you damage.

Although I've not bothered so far with insurance for the car (I do all the work myself and don't use the car much apart from recreation), I am thinking of taking out a 12 month policy next year. As well as track days I'm hoping to do some Luffield Speed rounds. Does anyone have a preference for or experience of the best cover? Thanks, Nick

I should add that I already have limited mileage Road Cover with RH Insurance...

I was insured through my normal road-going policy with Aon. They charge me £25 for each event. The excess is increased for the day to £2000 or 20% of the vehicle cost, whichever is the greater (last year it was £1,000 and 10%.) We've been talking to a number of insurers about schemes for track days. Peter Best is now offering an extension to their Abingdon road going policy - see http://www.mgs-on-track.com/index.php?PageID=149 for details. There is still one conversation ongoing - if it comes to anything we'll let everyone know by newsletter.

As Dave indicates, there are other irons in the fire with respect to insurance options. No news yet, but when there is, we'll let you know. :)
