Thanks to everyone involved at MGoT! Today was amazing, been a long time coming, but I finally managed a trackday! Silverstone is a tough track, but I got hang of it in the end! Maggots and Copse are breathtaking at high speed. The rain made things difficult, but sorted the men from the boys! ;) Shame I spun it on the last session, but luckily saved it from the gravel! Nice to meet Martin C and a few others aswell. Looking forward to the next one! Still buzzing now! Thanks again and hope you like the new avatar! :) p.s. am I allowed to post pics on other forums? The disclaimer seemed to imply I couldn't without a massive fine! Unless Ive read it wrong/too quickly!

Pleased you enjoyed it Matt That clause in the indemnity is more to do with commercial gain and at the end of the day protect us as a club. Feel free to post your own pics in forums etc. The more people that hear about MGoT the better imo :) Oh and I suppose as one of those that took in the full 360 panorama - I'm a boy ;) TimG

Thanks I would also like to add my thanks for a well organised time especially the signon. I only put the engine in the car last week - it and the rest of the car performed so well, I had nothing to fix/change, so I put the car away on the trailer by lunch in order to save it for its first race of the year with MGCC at Donnington in a week or two. So I was well up the M1 before I saw rain! Thanks again chris

Great Day Hi all, Had a great day with some excellent instruction, thanks Chris. Tried to follow the instruction and managed to put in some reasonale laps by the end of the day. My MG ZS ran suberbly and the tyres held out, did not spin, even once! Personally I enjoyed the wet track more than the dry as the risk of an off made me concentrate even more. The best part of the track for was bridge as I always semed faster than any one around me at that point in the circuit. Shame the head wind was down hanger straight but still managed to get over ninty MPH in the wet. My thanks to organisers for such a well run event.

Great pictures Hi Brent, Nice shots mate, not sure if you realise, but if you bunch images up in a Zip file of no more than 2Meg, they up load a lot quicker. Sorry you didn't find me so we could sort out a helmet for you, for future reference if you go to where everybody is signing on we can sort it there and then. If you arrive a little later, say once the day has started, then it is easiest to go to the end of the pit lane and ask the people there to point you in the direction of an MGoT committee member. Martin.

Super day! Thanks to all the organisers for a great day. And especially to the Silverstone instructor - sorry I didn't catch his name. I got him to do a couple of laps in M2DYK to see what he thought of the chassis set-up before I drove the remainder of the session. He proceeded to go a lot faster than I thought it would go, and made my day by saying the car was 'lovely' and absolutely spot-on. Bit of a shame about the rain after lunch as I had no chance to fully make use of the tips he gave me. More than once I thought "******* hell, I'm not slowing down fast enough - Oh I've locked up a few wheels!" - it was rather slippery in the braking areas, but at least I managed to keep pointing in the right direction . So another lot of great memories - should last till next year!

An excellent Day I really enjoyed the day at Silverstone, I thought the level of driving was absolutely superb; no problems passing the slower cars, and great manners from those passing me. I saw a lot of familiar faces and it seems as though everyone is getting a little bit quicker? Apologies to all that I span in front of at Vale, I still could not get it right by the end of the day, especially when moving between the wet and dry lines. Luckily the car stayed just about on the circuit.... It was the first time I have ever driven a track in the rain, I think having road tyres on the car was a bonus for once. Really looking forward to the next one, but I think I will miss Snetterton. Thanks again

Thanks again Brent, sorry you couldn't get a ride - it's quite an experience being a passenger! If you go to http://www.lejambonfute.f2s.com/page35.html you can hear one of my last year's laps - get the sounds but not the g-force!

Many Thanks to all at MGOT for an excellent day! Starting with a very enjoyable evening at the Saracens Head, Sunday night.:) Almost every session was different for my MGB, hence a very changeable track speed during the day. I haven’t had a flat tyre for over ten years but between the hotel and Silverstone guess what! I pumped it up, it appeared to hold. Checked the pressure after the briefing and went out for the warm-up, but after about half of the first lap vibration on the steering meant the tyre was going down fast. I pulled into the pits. MGF driver Peter kindly helped me to change the wheel with the help of his trolley jack. We fitted my spare but although the tyre is quite new the spare wheel is a 60 spoke standard type compared to 72 spoke 5.5inch on the others. I decided it was worth trying for the next session. Just before going out my mate Brian arrived and kindly took the good wheel and flat tyre off to find somewhere to get it fixed. I intended to take it steady during the session with the odd wheel and tyre; just as well it was like driving in the wet on a dry track! After a spin at Vale/Club  I took it even more steady! The old tyre was shot but Brian had a new one fitted with as near as possible tread pattern. With the good wheel and tyre fitted the next two sessions were like driving a totally different car.:) Then after lunch the rain, wind and hale came in. The handling was awful again, although that was my first experience on track in the rain. After sorting out my tyre Brian and his mate Dave took some pics with my old 35mm SLR camera which is a similar age to my MG. The kindest thing to say is the photos have a retro look! not very sharp compared to digital ones but I have down loaded a few to the gallery in any case. Looking forward to Mallory. Paul.

A rather belated thank you to all the organisers for a great day at Silverstone (well 1/2 day anyway!). In the final session before lunch we were approaching Stowe at almost max revs in 3rd, and about to change up, when had a sudden loss of power. No noises, just not much power, so crawled back to the pits to investigate. Starting it up in the garage, it sounded horrible, so rang the recovery people, who arrived in the Paddock no more than 45 minutes later - superb service. They just happen to be Heritage (the new MGoT sponsors), who we have been with for 10+ years, and this is the first time we have needed to use them. They offer track day cover for no extra cost. Took the engine apart today - there are a couple of pictures posted in the Gallery. The bore looks undamaged, the piston is a standard Omega 73.5mm one, but not sure about the head - will see Peter Burgess about it in a couple of week's time.

Ouch. Thanks for letting us know what the problem was Richard. Hope the head turns out to be salvageable. Having a valve head rattling round in the combustion chamber on track is a pretty extreme way of doing a de-coke.
