I have had AA roadside and Relay cover specifically because i travel the country doing trackdays and dont want to get stranded. The AA phoned me this week regarding renewing my cover and I mentioned trackdays. I was told that if I break down while doing a trackday I would not be covered. Anyone had to use recovery at a Trackday and were there any issues. Dont think Ill be using the AA anymore! RAC any good? Cheers Mark

They certainly used to for mechanical breakdown but not accident damage. The RAC don't do either. I recall a few being transported from the paddock by the AA. Dave will probably give you the low down.

The AA does cover you for track days From the AA Website In the AA 'Whats not covered" section n) assistance for vehicles broken down as a result of taking part in any “Motor Sport Event”,including, without limitation, racing, rallying, trials or time-trials or auto test. However, for the avoidance of doubt, the AA does not consider “Concours d’elegance” events, track test days for road-legal vehicles or rallies held exclusively on open public highways where participants are required to comply with the normal rules of the road, to be Motor Sports Events. I have been retrieved from the paddock twice I think and many others have too.. Unless the AA have recently changed their terms & conditions. I don't think the RAC cover you though Stu

Hi Mark, Many people, including me, have used the AA to get their cars home after problems on track days. The AA have always come in to the paddock and generally collected without difficulty. However, I do remember one occasion when Jenny Stothert had to help out by quoting the small print clause in the AA contract that covered this! Mind you, this was for accident damage rather than breakdown. It's possible that the AA may have changed their contracts recently, but just as likely that this is just call centre misinformation. I don't know of any other breakdown service that collects from track days. You could ask for a copy of the latest AA contract and read it through thoroughly to check for yourself before renewing. Regards, Dave

Thanks for all the replys I will indeed look into the small print. So far I have been really lucky, doing approx. 10 trackdays a year for the last 8 years and hevent needed to call on them once. Thanks Mark

Hi Mark, I can confirm that the RAC do not cover recovery from within the circuit if you have been taking part in a track day. When my head gasket went I had to get the car outside of the circuit and then it was recovered without problem. I have stayed with them because I've been with them for so many years and have always had good service. But for anybody with them who needs recovery, get the vehicle clear of the circuit and then contact them. Martin.
