I attended the Spa 6 hour classic this year as a spectator, and it really is an awesome circuit that would be fantastic for an MGoT day. I know this question has been asked before, but are we in a position yet to organise a day (even if it was shared with another club) next year? It's actually really easy to get to and is less than 4 hours from Calais. Joe

I'd love to drive Spa but I can imagine the possibility of it being a time I can do would be slim. I'd definitely be up for it if it was in any school holiday, other than that I can't do :(

We have looked into foreign circuits, 3 of us went over to Abbeville last year under the invitation from Lotus on track and we had a good day.. The biggest problem is logistics if things should go wrong.. In the UK it's easy, just phone the AA and they'll recover you and take you home. But on the continent even the AA 5 star cover wont recover you quickly and they will expect the car to be fixed locally if at all possible. This could depending on the problem take days or even weeks.. Now if you trailer your car to the event it's not a problem but the majority of our members don't have this luxury...:o Once you look at the cost of setting up some kind of recovery package it does start getting expensive when you take into consideration ferry crossings accommodation etc. I know there are a few commercial companies doing packages but your probably looking at £4-500 for the whole thing. Up to now we have felt we just could not get enough members interested into committing to enable us to consider booking a track exclusively or even a session. Most of the organisers/circuits prefer open pit lane too as it enables them to run many more cars during one day which can make for a much larger number of vehicles on circuit at any one time with widely varied abilities and power.. But saying that if enough people show interest we could possibly consider it at some point in the future.. It's down to you guys to let us know..;) Stu:D

How many people would we need? Can we ask members if they would be interested in one of the newsletters? Joe
I'm up for a trip to Spa :)
Well Joe, it looks like you have a committee member volunteering to research it ;) I can give you both a hint from the start - the only way it will work is to get the opportunity to take a few cars on someone else's day. Try Paul at LoT first.

Dave, Excellent. I don't mind putting in a bit of work if needed. Joe

I checked out LoT's day for you In October 2008 LoT went to Spa, but they piggybacked on a day organised by a commercial track day organiser called Autotrack - here is the page from their website showing a price of £249 per car and £70 for a 2nd driver. On LoT's website it shows that they had a reduced price of £210 per car. Here's what the event page on the LoT website said: "http://www.autotrackdays.co.uk specialise in days at Spa and Le Mans and run a very professional day to the same rules that we run all of our trackdays. We also have someone present to help with LoT members sign on and generally look after our members. We don't make any margin at all to cover the costs of sending someone it's just done as a service and for us as a club this makes more sense than taking the risk of running our own days. This day is NOT SUITABLE for novice trackday drivers. Spa is a very fast and difficult circuit and there will be a large mix of cars on this day so experienced drivers only please." Elsewhere on the forum there are some posts saying that there was a lot of giving way to Porsche 911s - this was from Elise and Exige owners

I might see if I can tag along with the LoT boys next year and see how it goes.
