Have seen the video of the BIG spin a few times now, and I have to say, having heard the screeECH. SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH BANG! a few times, I'm not surprised it removed the two tyres from the rims! Serves me right for running wide and _then_ getting a reverse spin on, which took me onto the grass. I guess 80mph was a bit quick afterall, especially when steering with one finger... Still, after Dave 'KwikFit' Livingstone's stirling help, all was quickly back to normal and was happily pirouetting around the cones again (once I'd finally figured out what the correct course was). Great day, well organised. Big thanks to all those involved. Mike.

Mike I lift my hat to you mate I saw your car parked at the buildings getting fixed and it did not stop you playing, Hope it was just the tyres and nothing else. Lee

Another great day at North Weald. I took quite a few photos in the morning at the slalom course - over 600! I'll sort through them and post some of them up over the next week or so, time permitting - I've got a VAT return to do :( Its already late

Re: Wicked day Hi everyone, Have started to upload photo's from yesterday, but you'll have to bear with me as I'm having PC problems. But keep popping back over the next week and I'll get them there. Dave if you are in touch with Andy Walsh then please give him a big thank you from me again. He made Kayleigh's birthday very special, she had never sat behind the wheel of the 'B' before, so she was made up with that. But to drive Andy's Elise was the icing on the cake, without doubt, so well done Andy, TOP MAN.:) She is now pestering me for a trackday so watch out for her next year  Cheers all, see you soon, Martin.

Cheers Lee - was thanks to Dave, and the great help from the airfield guys and a few others with similar tyre 'issues' that I got back out again. Did take a little while to get back into the swing (spin?) of things, but had a great time all told. And now for the pics and audio! http://www.expressiongroup.com/audio/NorthWealdSpin2.mp3  Great photos, by the way, FOREST BOY - think that was my first (and relatively tame spin)

Thanks Just to echo what the others have said to pass on thanks to Dave and all the other helpers for giving up their time to give the rest of us a great day. I was in the blue MGB roadster, not fast, driving not bril, but grin factor huge. :) Cheers Rick

Re: s3mjc Hi Mike, Yes the photo was of yur first spin, I was just walking away from the corner when you did your 'Come Dancing' impression :D I didn't realise the end result was so dramatic, but when I got back to Andy & Dave I did report you got the award for the best spin of the day and that you'd made it all the way across the runway and onto the grass  Still I'm glad all was well in the end. I have now finished uploading the best of the photographs, if anybody wants a specific copy I can mail them to you. Just mail me with the photo details, i.e. = North Weald 031106 127, at mlkcharles@aol.com and I'll mail them through. Cheers, Martin

Ah, that spin was my second spin. First one was progressive oversteer and fairly harmless down the middle. Second one was attempt to steer one fingered, lost nerve, grabbed wheel and got a bit of oversteer, and then snapped back the other way and went right round and off to the right, hence reaching the grass (but only probably because I wasn't quick enough on the brakes). Third run did lovely one finger steer at 80mph, but ran wide and had a nervy twitch going over the drain. (That's the first run on the audio). Bit worried about how wide I'd run. Fourth run, very similar to run 3, except a tiny bit quicker, ran wide, the drain twitched the car into an oversteer then violent snap back the other way and exit onto the grass at speed (and YES, DEFINITELY hard on the brakes all the way this time). That's the one that did the damage!

I seem to have come away from the day with a slightly bucked O/S/R wheel. Goodness knows how I managed that but it's making an annoying bumping now. Ahh well, was it worth it? Hell yes :)

Hell yes :)
James, I would have thought it highly unlikely you have buckled a wheel, you have to hit something or drop in a bigish pot hole to do that. Check your tyres to see if the carcase has gone weak in one spot. I had a similar incident at our recent Castle Combe day, felt a bit like a UJ had gone and a distinct bump, bump when driving along. Turned out to be the tyre had gone in the treaded section, I found it by removing the wheel and slowly turning it, at one point the tread gaps got suddenly wider. Basically the tyre instead of being round had gone egg shaped. Good luck and don't thrash it around until you've found the problem. Martin

Martin
Update on this, just put my spare 15" wheels on the back where the wheel was twisted slightly (this I know as the tyre place found that out) but it seems it's always been slightly bent inwards so that's not it. And the bumping is still there with the 15"s so it's going on the ramps tomorrow and having a good once over (the benefits of working in a garage :D)

Na, one of our mechanics is off ill so I haven't had a chance to sneak it in yet. I'm hoping for next week if the skiving bugger gets back. Otherwise I'm going to book it in properly and stomache paying for it. I took all 4 wheels off last weekend to give them a good scrubbing before the winter and it seems to have helped somewhat  Although it is still there so it needs looking at. I'm hoping it's nothing expsnsive :) Update: It was a flatspot on the front tyre, which I didn't check (doh) and one of the rears is bald anyway, so it's time for 4 new boots. Just intime for Christmas :(
