Had a PM with a file from this chap, I haven't opened it but now notice that I have thousands of unopened PM's. Any clues as to what is going on?
Same as Dave, got one earlier and PMed one of the mods to see if they know anything else. Anyways, how's you mate?
65000 plus messages looks very suspicious is this site safe. I am doing a virus scan just in case. I cannot get into the 65000 plus messages.
Hi Folks I'm sure Martin will be along today and check this chap out for you. We have been getting aot of spam registration attempts lately and we have now in place moderation of all registrations before they can post on the forum so it's fairly unlikely any will get through. Regarding the 65 thousand unread messages, this is a problem some of us have had for a few years now. They are not really there, it's just a bug in the system that throws up this wierd figure, mine currently says i have 65532 unread messages and i know i am not that popular !! Cheers folks Stu
Hi John Yes, this is a safe site, professionally hosted and maintained in the same place as many other MG sites such as MG-Rover.org and Xpowerforums.com. To my knowledge its never been hacked. The private message counter is a long standing bug in VB which we will be addressing in the new site. As Stu says, we are currently plagued with a group who try to make spam posts in here. As a consequence we have enforced manual admin approval of all registrations before posting or messaging is possible. Its not always easy to spot 100% of the spammer registrations and it looks like MannInBlack slipped through the net. He has now been dealt with. Look forward to your future posts and hope to see you on track some time. Tim
Hi folks, "Manninblackk" is not in the list of current registered users., so I can only assume the message was sent some time ago? If any body can tell me more information, who sent and when I can look into things further from that. However what I suspect has happened is this. Anybody could register and be accepted as a member, put up posts, send private messages or e-mail members if they had selected to allow it. I suspect "Manninblackk" did this before it was deleted. About September time last year we noticed an increase in the number spam registrations we were receiving. These were monitered and deleted, but by December we were recieivng an average of around 45 a day. There was also a large amount of spam posts being put up, mostly for pharmaceuticals, insurance, money making schemes and pornography. Because of this we took the decision in mid January to move to registration approval, so everybody who registers to join now, is vetted and approved before they have access to the BB and membership lists. The issue with having 66k messages, as Tim said it is a glich in the system, if you go to your user CP and open your inbox you shouldn't find 66k messages in there. I had this for some months and then it disappeared as quickly as it came. Basically though, if you have something in your CP message inbox that looks suspicious, then like your e-mail don't open it just delete it. Martin.
Hi, Do we know if the attachment from manninblackk is dangerous or not? I did open it as I thought he was a fellow MGOT member. Alarm bells only rang when I found tonight that his message has disappeared and he is not listed as a member. I have run my anti virus software since which didn’t find any threats just a few tracking cookies & that is what his attachment also reported? I will be a bit more cautious in future when I get a PM!
yeah i got this private message from mainblackk and then was worried so hopefully its nothing then? Dave
Hi Paul, As long as you didn't click on the link contained in the message you should be OK. As far as we are aware opening the message will not have caused anything malicous to happen, however clicking on the link would have. Tracking cookies and even Trojans can be found quite frequently it is why everyone should have and RUN anti-virus and spyware protection regularly. Martin.
Hi Dave, See previous post above same will apply. Can we not tempt you to bring the TT ZS out on the Grand Prix circuit, it would be well suited to this track Having followed your many posts on XPF I'd love to see you out with us.
Hi all, First for anybody left that has a PM from MannInBlack, just delete it. Should you happen to open the message nothing should happen. However under no circumstances click on the link contained within the message. The same applies to any other links contained in any other private messages you may get. I would also say the same for any links you may see on the forum that you are unsure about. If you have any doubts PM a moderator to check it out. We now know how this was done, and we are looking to prevent it happening again, but it is not impossible that it might. The moderators cannot be monitering the site 24 hours a day and several potential registrations come in overnight. We are doing all we can to to keep things in check. Martin.
ref maninblack private message Hi, The same happened to me, and it did state that I had the 65,000 unread posts, but after I clicked on the 'delete' tab, and the post was removed, i noticed the next time I logged in to the forum all these 'outstanding' posts were removed. David
