    Hi Martjen

You will be able to see if the clutch fluid has been replaced by the colour in the master cylinder reservoir, a dirty black or nice and clear. The clutch fluid doesn't have a hard life as far as heat etc is concerned so don't waste your money on the more upmarket stuff unless you are buying it for your brakes anyway. DOT4 will be fine. I have a vacuum brake bleeder which works fairly well sucking fluid from the slave cylinder nipple.

Gear oil is long lived and expensive, probably doesn't need doing. What's the mileage and year of your F. Many use Castrol SMX-S but price it up.

With respect to your PM about replacing the rear screen. - never done one but it looks simple enough, just a couple of rivets to drill out and replace. Assume you have the screen stitched into the fabric with a zip.

    Anyone coming done one ????

Might be easy, may not be, depends on how the rusty bolts come off. I think having too big a list of stuff to do is likely to end in tears with your car not being in a running condition by the end of the day. By all means bring the downpipe (together with replacement bolts & nuts) We can certainly show you how - but don't bank on getting it done.

Just copying and pasting what I wrote from the mg-rover.org forums:

Is it too late to join this? I should be free to join in.... Coming from the Coventry area.... Anyone else going from there?
Don't really need to service the car as its not even hit 6000 miles yet but definitely interesting to see how to do it when it comes to it.... Also a little help here and there would be great like replacing the heater fan resistors, etc....
Can bring some tools and maybe my own disposable barbecue, strictly vegetarian? Can bring some food to go on it as well or suppose there will be plenty of shops there?

You'll be most welcome. Probably learn a lot from just hanging around and watching. Fan resistors are simple but a pig for access. How are you at yoga.

Alright well put me down as a definite, and will be bringing a friend along as he is interested as well....

Am guessing there will be electric points for the soldering iron and any other equipment?

I have seen a few posts where people have noted what they need doing whether it be on the day or not, was wondering if I should do that?

Also put me down as an amateur!

Yes, might be an idea if some can bring an extension lead.

    thanks for the reply.

I think all i'm wanting out of this is help fitting the rear screen. I have the complete unit for the screen it has been stiched in and welded apparently to make it stronger.

I also have a selection of black rivets but no gun. can easily fetch one from Maplins for £5.

I've been toying with doing it myself following the instructions online but may need an experienced eye watching over me incase i miss something.

Does anyone coming have a diagnostic kit that will connect up to a '96 MGF? If so could I please borrow it on the day?

I'm pretty sure that my car is running lean but I want to find out for definite. I still think there's an air leak somewhere but I'm unable to find it at the moment :(

I declined Paul's kind offer but as you really need it Dan, maybe Kara can collect and bring it.

Should have said sooner. Technozen is the resistor man but he's getting married on Thursday so probably best not to bother him ;)

Thanks Tim :) Nearly there now but I want to see what the diagnostics say rather than keep guessing and taking things apart

I've found I also managed to strip a thread on the inlet manifold to plenum so rather unhappy about that at the moment :(

    Count me in

Will bring my 1996 "F" VVC.
I'm just around the corner in Bournemouth - can bring axle stands and wheel ramps and some tools. Do you want them dropped in before the w/end?

    Servicing day - apologies

Sorry - won't be able to make servicing day after all. Ironically, the F is off the road awaiting hoses! Hope the day is a great success - and dry!

Rave available (and my todo list)

I can bring a laptop with Rave on it.

    I would like to achieve:-
    • Have others ascertain top end rattle when hot and at idle. VVC mechs maybe?
    • Check Fans for proper operation on Radiator and Engine Bay.
[*]Replace Gearbox Oil (will bring SMX-S) - it's 100K miles old I guess!
[*]Grease Suspension (will bring grease and gun).
[*]Replace Brake fluid (and Clutch Fluid) - I have some dot4.
[*]Copper slip road wheels to hubs to prevent bonding.
[*]Discuss hard ride - height is right - do I have air in hydrogas fluid perhaps?

Wow, only a few days to go, better start getting things organised!

Not sure if I'll attempt the boot latch with limited equipment (Widget 'X' that will do the job nicely is always the Widget you leave at home!) but there are many things to be getting on with. :)

What Brake Fluid do people recommend? I think someone mentioned something on the .ORG, but it's not letting me in at the moment, so a litre of which type?

Also, we appear to be having a few people hacking down from the M25, should we meet up at Fleet Services again (that's the right one, isn't it?). Gotenks what time do you recon (and what car will you be in?!).

Also, if someone uses ramps with their F, if you have the room, can you bring them so that I can see if there are any snags in using them? I'm sick and tired of the games I have to play to get mine airbourne! (I'll bring axel stands, but if I can borrow someone elses I'll leave the heavy/semi-useless jack at home... )

The weather is on the change, but the BBC isn't sure if it's a change for the better or worse, so fingers crossed!;)
