MG F/TF Servicing Day 13th June

For the last two years I've run an MGF/TF servicing day through the .org forum. I'm not too frequent a visitor there at the moment but still keen to help people understand their F/TF and to be able to do their own routine servicing, swap experience of jobs done etc. This year I'm using this MGoT Pit Lane forum to organise the 'Who's coming' list.

The day will be a similar format to previous years with hopefully something like 20-30 cars turning up. It is really focussed on people with little knowledge who want to learn but we need a mix of people who know how to service and people who want to learn to make this day successful. Anyway its a good excuse to get together and talk.

    Objectives :-

    1) To encourage those that haven't, to get the access panel off their engine bay and find out just how easy it is to have a look-see.
    2) To help and guide people through DIYing the basic servicing of their own car on the day and learn how to do those little MGF specific jobs.
Oil change, Plugs, Leads, filters, disks, pads, brake fluid, lube, Gear Oil, etc.
    3) To sort out peoples minor problems.
    4) To help each other and pass on tips and demonstrations of those quirky MG proceedures.
    5) To have a blast and get to know each other.

Location :- My office Car Park, 10 Whittle Road, Dorset BH21 7RU. (Watch your spoiler on the little dip entering the car park). I'll open the office for tea making, shelter, lounging etc.

Date :- 13th June from 9:00 until we've all had enough.

We'll probably get a Barbie going at some point. If there are enough people staying over, no reason that this can't go on until quite late [IMG] Do people want to bring their own stuff or shall we chip in and pop up to Sainsbury's. Tea, coffee milk etc will already be at the office but bring anything else you want to drink.

We will have 240V Electric and Compressed Air but unfortunately the outside tap is no more so we're down to buckets for any detailing work.

    Tools:-
Bring what you have or can fit into your MGF/TF. Helpful if you have axle stands. If you're bringing fluids ie oil, make sure you have something to put the old stuff in to take back home.
I will bring a fairly comprehensive set including Manual, meters, OBD II scanner and a few special tools which you may borrow. - So long you put them back when you're finished with them.

Liability - None. Its all at your own risk. If you bugger your car or someone does it for you - bad luck.

    Insurance - None

    Event Cost :- Nowt.

Hope to see you there - Tim Guy

I'll be hopefully coming along again, was talking to Paul aka Technozen about last year just last weekend funnily enough [IMG] [IMG] Just got to work out if it's a weekend I've got Marc or not.

I may have my PRT to fit if I don't get on with it beforehand as well as a bunch of other bits [IMG] Don't suppose you've got a hydragas pump have ya' [IMG]

I'd LOVE to come along if possible!!! [IMG] It would be so awesome to learn how to service my girl!

Unfortunately I'm not really able to offer any MG related advice being a bit of a girly girl but can offer the following:

    1) Fashion advice
    2) Advice in reptile husbandry
    3) I can chat about Lord of the Rings for the next 10 years or so
    4) Oooh... and I can bring along food & an obscene amount of booze

I imagine most people will opt for no.4

Oh if there's anything else you think I might be useful for let me know!

Thanks for organising this Balrog - sorry just sounds more awesome than Tim!!!! [IMG]

Just thinking outloud now but as there's going to be a few people with hydragas pump, do you reckon a change of hydragas spheres complete with lowering pins would be possible? I've got the spheres already and am just in the process of hammeriting them to keep them rust free :D, pins are just a few clicks away and then that's just the fitting left

Don't see why not Dan. I've never taken a sphere out before but it doesn't look too hard and do-able in a day. All subject to Steve bringing his hydragas pump of course. We also need to think about fluid. Might make sense for a bulk buy if there's enough people wanting to commit. Suggest you PM Steve.

Cool :D I've taken them out of a spare subframe and it's easy enough, doesn't look too much harder on the car but I'll check for sure this weekend.

Fluid's not a problem, some for sale here. Not sure how much is needed for a pump up or the whole system though. I need to get some replacement boots so I can order some at the same time and bring it down with me :)

    Hi Tim

I attended last year and really enjoyed it although my car needed nothing doing. I would love to attend again as I learnt a lot from helping others.

I am happy to bring an extensive tool kit.

    Hi Tim,

Last years "Service Day" was excellent, especially the cold pint afterwards!

Unfortunately the "small" matter of our wedding clashes with your weekend so I won't be able to attend:(.

If you want the diagnostic tool for the day I would be happy to loan it to you, let me know...

    Hope the sun shines!

hmmmmmm, I wonder can I persuade Maria to get married on Friday...................................................
