A rare opportunity

It's not the first time that we've been invited to share a day at Brands GP with our friends at Lotus on Track, but it certainly doesn't happen every year.

The full GP circuit gets little track day use because of noise issues. Also, supply and demand means that when the circuit is made available it is comparatively expensive. For that reason I've never driven it. But, this year, I intend to :D.

I'm already booked in and just need to sort out some accommodation - it's a long way from Pembrokeshire! I'll probably make a trip of it and explore a bit of Kent whilst I'm at it.

So, who else is booked in?

    I am also entered.

As my local circuit and a rare chance to drive the full circuit, it seemed too good to miss. I havent spectacted on the GP circuit since a F1 Grand Prix [or possibly the Race of Champions] in the late 70s / early 80s.

I've just booked as well. Like MG Dug, it's my local circuit but I've only ever driven the Indy circuit - too good an opportunity to miss.

I even had to persuade my better half to change the dates of our holiday :D

I've just booked as well, as you say Dave, a rare opportunity to drive the GP circuit. Can't wait!:D

Just had a look on the LoT web site and we have 24 cars booked into the MGoT session. Getting close to filling up!

If anyone needs to hire a helmet let me know off-line please.

Yes me too. Really looking forward to it having dreamt about driving the GP circuit since the 60's. We're driving down from Northumberland, so not our local circuit at all!
Our '63 MGB is not super-powerful, and is still on wire wheels, so hope it's up to it. Actually just stopped for a cuppa whilst getting her ready for the season [a bit late], nothing like getting into the spirit early!!

There will (sadly for me) be another place available, I have had to cancel my booking I'm afraid. I'm just hoping the opportunity arises again, perhaps next year. Brands GP has been on my wish list for years.

So what did everyone think of our first trackday on the Brands GP circuit?

I had a great time, even in the couple of wet sessions at the end of the day. The M25 on the way home is another story but such is life!

Was thinking of you guys yesterday, especially during the biblical rain storm

Still it must have been truly awesome Dave - they're all speechless :D

Managed to blag a ride with Dave Pearce and another 2 with Stu ..
That GP circuit is something else .. Seen it on telly but never realised how steep the hill was going down under the bridge after leaving the Indy circuit .. And just for good measure what appeared to be a tight right hander at the crest of a rise .. Well that's how it looked to me in the left hand seat ..
A great day among friends and many thanks to my drivers ..

Great to see you at Brands Gary. Also, great to see so many others I caught up with after quite a long time away from it all! I was also delighted that despite the weather forecast we got 5 dry sessions in a row :) - the downpour over lunch having dried by our 2:20 slot. Only in session 6 was it actually raining, although the circuit was still wet for our final session of the day.

MartinC, the day probably did leave most of us speechless - the GP part was amazing. It was so strange knowing the Indy mile so well and then disappearing off into this unknown section

Westfield Bend through Dingle Dell and into Dingle Dell Corner flows incredibly, with 'act of faith' turn ins (I had instruction from Alan otherwise I'd have never worked out the flow). Even with Alan's advice, coming down Hawthorn Hill into Hawthorn bend is so intimidating, I never got close the taking the bend fast enough. I'm afraid that I'll probably never go back to find out just how fast that bend is. The circuit is so expensive that this will undoubtedly be a one-off for me and I guess others. Still it was a great experience :)

    Hi Dave,
I guessed it would be a terrific experience, it has always looked so good when the touring cars have done it. It turned out to be a good job I didn't book it, on the Monday I came off my pushbike, 2 cracked ribs, badly bruised hip, torn chest muscles and no skin on left arm, only minor really but certainly couldn't have thrown myself around a circuit.

I expect you realise my days with MGoT are now over, having sold all the MG's and now only have a BMW MINI Cooper S - John Cooper Works edition. But when convenient I will drop in to days to see old friends. :D

    Take care all.

Ouch! Only two wheels you see - highly dangerous this cycling malarkey!

I'm really sorry to hear that Martin. I noticed that you'd been a bit quiet on here, but I had no idea that all the MGs had gone. The end of an era :(

Hope to catch up with you sometime.
    Best wishes, Dave

This is gonna sound a bit like an Oscar acceptance speech... :p

It was good to see everyone there especially Gary& Dee (BVZ) looking so well, as well as Dave and Stu who both covered some miles to get there.

Thanks to Doug and Nigel for giving me a tour of the circuit...

Thanks to the photographer for some really good pics...

Thanks to the M25 for the journey home...

(And sorry to hear of your miss-hap Martin C, hope you are recovering well!)

All in all, another great day with MGs on Track!

Just bought an F to join you guys

Instead of waiting another 18 months to complete my B and get on track with you guys, today I sold my sports bike and bought a 2002 MGF Trophy. This means I can have my cake and eat it! Picking it up Wednesday/Thursday.

Stupid question im sure but where/how do I book the events like Brands GP? I'm also interested in Snetterton as I live on the Cambridge/Norfolk border.

    Thanks, Paul.

    Hi Paul
Brands GP will be booking on the LoT site soon when we have got our ducks in a row.
I have just put the Snet details up on our website at provisional status. We will probably open it for booking in March when we have finalised details with the circuit.

Good luck with the Trophy, hope you enjoy it - what colour.
